BUDAPEST, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met here Friday with Hungarian President Solyom Laszlo, and put forward a four-point proposal to help further bilateral relations.     The Chinese vice-president proposed to maintain high-level contacts aimed at cementing friendship, to enhance economic cooperation and investment aimed at balancing trade, to improve personnel exchanges aimed at furthering understanding, and to join hands in promoting a healthy development of China-European Union relations. Hungarian President Solyom Laszlo (R) meets with visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping in Budapest, capital of Hungary, Oct. 16, 2009 "No matter what changes have taken place in the international arena or in the two countries, China-Hungary relations will develop steadily," Xi said during his talks with Solyom Laszlo.     The Chinese vice-president recalled that China and Hungary had deepened political trust, increased trade and mutual investment, and enhanced cultural exchanges in recent years, with a highlight being Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Hungary in 2004. BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, said Saturday it is drafting a development plan for the emerging industry of energy conservation and environmental protection.     The commission said in a statement posted on its Web site that the move is aimed to counter the impact of the global financial crisis by "accelerating the cultivation of emerging industries and aiming at a commanding height in future economic competition."     The development plan on the sector covers energy conservation, sustainable use of resources and environmental protection, according to the statement.     Technologies, equipment, products and services concerning energy conservation and environmental protection would be involved in the plan, it said.     The commission revealed no further details on the plan.

Wu will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton later in the day. DAMASCUS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said Thursday that Syria is willing to enhance cooperation with China on the basis of mutual benefits.     Moallem made the pledge during a meeting with Wu Sike, China's Special Envoy to the Middle East, and both sides discussed bilateral relations and the latest situation in the Middle East region.     Wu reiterated that China supports Syria's commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the relevant UN resolutions. However, we need to make efforts to develop bilateral relations further through political, economic and cultural cooperation and coordination in the international arenas," Wu added.     Wu Sike arrived in Damascus on Thursday. As the special representative of the Chinese Foreign Minister, he had visited Algeria and Qatar before reaching Syria.

  

BEIJING, OCT. 6 (Xinhua) -- China on Tuesday expressed appreciation over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s commitment to the goal of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsular and its adherence to realizing the goal through multilateral dialogues including the six-party talks.     Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks in response to questions on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue..  Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) shakes hands with Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), during a meeting in Pyongyang, capital of the DPRK, Oct. 5, 2009.    China has always supported the DPRK-U.S. bilateral dialogue aiming at increasing mutual understanding and trust, and believed all sides should adhere to the six-party talks and make joint efforts for the early resumption of the process, Ma said in a statement.
