Online shoe retailer Zappos will allow customers to buy just one shoe, or a pair of shoes in different sizes.The change, being tested this week on their website, is aimed at amputees, those with different-sized feet, and others who may have felt excluded by the shoe industry.It’s part of Zappos Adaptive, an initiative started in 2017 to “connect people with products that makes getting dressed easier for everyone” according to the company. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) — Bob Walker has been an Oceanside resident for 32 years, “I used to take my children down here to this beach right here we would put our towels on the sand, walk out to the waters edge and paddle out and surf.” If you look at that same beach now, the sand has been washed away, “you do not see people using this beach and beach access whatsoever, we don’t have this beach any longer,” Walker tells 10News. He’s now co-founder of Save Oceanside Sand, a local group advocating for jetties to be built along the coast to help build back up beaches and maintain sand levels. They plan to propose a jetty at Tyson Street, Wisconsin Street, Buccaneer Beach and St. Malo. Walker tells 10News the jetties will work to retain the sand, similarly to what Newport Beach has done with theirs, “they’ve got they have a series of eight groins." Groins, also known as jetties, will help with the city’s annual dredging process. Vicki Casper has also lived in Oceanside for over two decades, familiar with the dredging process, she says more needs to be done, “I’ve watched the sand be pumped back on the beach when they do the dredging and a month later its gone again."The sand washes away with the southern swell, migrates toward La Jolla. Walker tells 10News something needs to be done before North County loses all of its beaches, “this is the new reality the fact that we do not have any sand here whatsoever anymore.” 1434

NPC International, which operates 1,136 Pizza Hut restaurants and 386 Wendy’s locations announced Wednesday it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.The company said that it plans to keep its combined nearly 1,500 restaurants open during bankruptcy proceedings. NPC International has a total of approximately 7,500 full-time employees and approximately 28,500 part-time employees spread through 30 states and Washington, DC.NPC International said that labor costs, increased expenses for supplies and the uncertainty due to the COVID-19 outbreak contributed to the company’s downturn.“These challenges have been magnified recently by the impact and uncertainty of COVID-19, and we believe it is necessary to take proactive steps to strengthen our capital structure, so we have the financial flexibility to continue to adapt to current industry trends,” said Jon Weber, CEO & President of NPC’s Pizza Hut division. “We also intend to use this process to continue to evaluate and optimize our restaurant portfolio so that we are best positioned to meet the needs of consumers across the country.”The restaurant industry has faced turbulence over the last few months.Just last month, the NPC International added 140 Wendy’s locations to its portfolio of restaurants.NPC International is the largest franchisee of Pizza Hut locations. 1341

Officials with Operation Warp Speed confirmed Wednesday that they remain on track in their goal to distribute 20 million initial doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of the month.Health and Human Services Sec. Alex Azar, as well as Operation Warp Speed chief medical adviser Dr. Moncef Slaoui and the operation's chief operating officer Gen. Gus F. Perna, said Wednesday that the first shipments of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine were delivered largely without issue.The briefing comes just two days after medical centers across the country began administering the first initial doses of a COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer. That vaccine was approved for Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA last Friday and was formally recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the weekend.The briefing also comes a day before a vote by an FDA panel on whether to recommend a COVID-19 vaccine produced by Moderna for Emergency Use Authorization. Should the panel vote in favor of the recommendation, it would keep the Moderna vaccine on track for authorization by next week.In a report released Tuesday, the FDA reaffirmed Moderna's safety and efficacy statistics that were published following the conclusion of the drug's Phase III trial. Slaoui also said that a vaccine candidate produced by Johnson & Johnson is slated to fill its Phase III trials by tomorrow, and that initial efficacy data for that drug would be available by early January. He added that initial results of a vaccine candidate produced by AstraZeneca could be available later in January.Azar also said Wednesday that though supplies remain limited, there are still some therapeutic drugs, like antibody treatments, available for high-risk COVID-19 in some areas.
