BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- China saw a 32.9 percent growth year-on-year in fiscal revenue in the first two months of the year due to factors including rising tax revenue following continued economic recovery, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced Sunday.Fiscal revenue for January and February combined reached more than 1.36 trillion yuan (about 200.05 billion U.S. dollars), the MOF said in a statement posted on its website.Of the total, the central fiscal revenue topped 702.7 billion yuan, up 36 percent from the same period in 2009, while local governments raked in 657.61 billion yuan, up 29.7 percent.Fiscal revenue in January was 865.9 billion yuan, up 41.2 year on year and exceeding February's 494.5 billion yuan.The statement said the big difference in fiscal revenue between the past two months was resultant because a nationwide seven-day Spring Festival occurred in February, leading to fewer working days in the month.The MOF attributed the fast fiscal revenue growth to the continuing economic recovery in China which boosted tax revenue, and a low comparison base in the first two months last year, when revenue was down 11.4 percent due to the financial crisis.China's National Bureau of Statistics released figures last Thursday which showed in January and February, the country's industrial output grew 20.7 percent, and retail sales of consumer goods rose 17.9 percent, while the urban fixed assets investment leapt 26.6 percent, and import and export in general trade soared by 52.1 percent.

MOSCOW, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- An assembly line of Chinese automaker Geely was officially launched in Russia's Caucasus republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, local media reported Saturday.     Russian car company Derways has started body welding and other assembling work of Geely-brand vehicles on Friday, according to Russian state TV channel Russia-24.     Some 1,100 units were expected to be produced by the end of February, the first batch of which will be delivered to Moscow by Jan. 20. The annual production of Geely will be no lower than 12,000 units.     Besides Geely, Derways was also scheduled to manufacture for other Chinese brands such as Li Fan, Great Wall Motors, Chery and Haima. The total annual output of the Derways company was estimated to reach 100,000 units.     Local residents could enjoy price discounts when purchasing these cars, according to the company, which also foresees a great demand of Chinese vehicles on Russian market.

BEIJING, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 53.36 million Mu (about 3.56 million hectares) of crops in China had been affected by severe drought by Saturday, said the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters. The drought, mostly in China's southwestern provinces including Yunnan and Guizhou, had damaged crops and caused water shortage to both people and livestock.In Yunnan, the worst drought-stricken province, up to 31.48 million Mu of crops had been affected, with 11.53 million Mu seriously damaged and 6.16 million Mu destroyed. BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- China named and shamed more than 10,000 workshops and selling groups in dust and poisonous material-related industries last year in a bid to fight against occupational diseases, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).The figure was revealed at a national meeting on food safety and sanitation supervision here Monday amid an ongoing campaign on regulating workshops and selling companies in the fields of mining, quartzite processing, gem processing, stone processing, smelting and cement production among others.The campaign, starting in last August, was jointly launched by the State Administration of Work Safety, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and All-China Federation of Labor.Earlier this month, 152 workers at an electrical and lighting company in south China's Guangdong Province were found to have suspected mercury poisoning, showing symptoms such as headaches, hair loss, joint aches and shivers.According to the company, all six production lines of the workshop used liquid mercury, but some workers seldom took the trouble to wear a mask at work.Vice Health Minister Chen Xiaohong said at the meeting that the ministry is currently working with other departments to set up regular meetings at ministerial level on the prevention and control of occupational diseases.The MOH is also aiming to set up a network against occupational diseases at grassroot level while providing basic job-related health services for migrant workers, said Chen.
