As of Thursday night, 456 restaurant owners have joined a class-action suit against New York City and state over indoor dining, according to the attorney representing the restaurant owners. They're hoping a court order will get indoor dining back into New York City. That list now includes the father of superstar musician and actress Lady Gaga, who owns Joanne Trattoria on the Upper West Side."When it rains we gotta close," said Joe Germanotta. "Once it starts getting cold. The place will be empty."He's added his name to the billion suit.Germanotta says he's got the financial backing to keep his restaurant afloat but joined the lawsuit after seeing others having to close."It's so sad, because I'm watching some of my dear friends that own places, shut down," said Germanotta.Come this weekend, everywhere around the city will be open for indoor dining, including Long Island's Nassau County, Westchester and New Jersey."Not one public health official from the city has entered any of these restaurants to deem them dangerous," said attorney James Mermigis, who represents the restaurant owners."On this side of the border, in the Borough of Queens and throughout the five boroughs, what does the mayor and the governor say? 'You eat in the street.'," said Eric Ulrich, Republican New York City Councilman.City Councilman Justin Brannan, a Democrat, also wants to know why Long Islanders can eat inside and city residents can't."Tell us why, right now, I can go have a meal anywhere outside the City of New York indoors at limited capacity, but I can't do it here in the city, the five boroughs," Brannan said.New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo blamed New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio in a press conference Thursday, saying de Blasio needs to figure out how to enforce social distancing guidelines.""We are going to contact the speaker today, and say look, 'If New York City can say this many police, NYPD, can be put on a task force to monitor the compliance, that's something that we can discuss.'"The mayor says it's a health risk."I want to see how we can help them, but it has to be health and safety first," de Blasio said.Germanotta is urging lawmakers to get it together."Something has to be done. They're not listening, they're not hearing, they're just not being realistic," he said. "They gotta put themselves in our shoes — they're still getting a paycheck, these people are suffering." MANCHESTER, Md. – When authorities were called to a house in Manchester, Maryland early Monday morning, they discovered a 56-year-old man 151

For the ladies in this gym, age isn't the number that matters most. "I’m going to be building up to 200. I want to get that done before I’m 80 years old,” says 78-year-old Bonnie Thurston on how much she can deadlift. Thurston says she’s been active her whole life, but never thought she would powerlift. Seven years ago, Thurston struggled with osteoporosis, a condition in which bones become weak and brittle, increasing risk of fractures. Then, Thurston found a powerlifting group for seniors. "I now weigh more than I weighed when I started this, but I wear the same size clothes, and the reason is I have stronger bones and larger bones and more muscle in my body than I did when I started this," she says. These group of seniors deadlift; they bench and they pull sleds. And while Thurston is doing all of this, she pushes 80. Thurston is not even the oldest person at the gym. Edith Murway-Traina is a member and is 97 years old. “I've always had muscles, I just had to learn to use them," she says. Bill Beekley leads the group. He's trained powerlifters since the 90s. "Don't be intimidated by what these ladies are doing, because they all started just moving their bodies," Beekley says. He says lifting correctly can help increase bone density and fight conditions like osteoporosis. It also helps these women in everyday life. "It's very functional,” the instructor says. “Some say they can carry their groceries a little easier now and don't need help getting groceries in an out of the car.” For 97-year-old Murway-Traina, she says that movement is so important as she nears 100. “The more you move, the more exercise you get, the more your body responds,” she says. Murway-Traina says she was nervous about the idea of powerlifting at first, but she now does it three times a week. "When you start being too old for something, you are too old for something, you have to know you are capable of doing what you want to make yourself do," Murway-Traina says. Research agrees. A JAMA study found physical activity in later life is linked to a lower risk of dying, even in older people who haven't been very active.Murway-Traina wants other seniors not to let the weight of getting older stop them from giving this a try. 2253

TAMPA, Fla. — A 10-year-old girl is making a big difference in the City of Tampa.Vivian Anderson wrote a letter to Tampa Mayor Jane Castor in December 2019 after seeing a “Men Working” sign at a construction site where men and women were working side-by-side.“Well I didn’t really like how it was excluding the women,” said Vivian. In her letter, Vivian suggested the sign should be more inclusive and say “Workers Present” instead. Days, weeks and months went by without a response from the mayor’s office.“I was thinking she probably wasn’t gonna get it,” said Vivian.“I told her the wheels of government work slow and that it takes time and we’ll just have to wait to see what happens,” said Mary Anderson, Vivian’s mom. Finally, a letter arrived and Vivian was thrilled.“Happy, really, excited. I started screaming in the living room,” she said. The city is now ensuring that inclusive signage is required instead of “Men at Work.” Vik Bhide, Mobility Department Director, says that will be done during the design review, permit review and coordination of work on all projects. Bhide says the city phased out that type of signage years ago, but they’re now making sure other companies and contractors are on the same page.Adding to Vivian’s excitement, a second letter arrived in the mail inviting her to meet with Mayor Castor.During the meeting, Vivian was presented with a hard hat and two signs. One read “Workers Present” with the Mayor’s signature and the other said “Vivian M. Anderson Way.”“This is awesome! I love it!” said Vivian.“We need that input, we need that creativity, that innovation, especially from the young people in our community because we’re gonna be handing this city off to them in the near future,” said Castor. The mayor sees a bright future ahead of Vivian and possibly one in government. “I think Vivian is going to be in my seat, frankly.” This article was written by Sarah Phinney for WFTS. 1966

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Griswold family station wagon with an uprooted tree and Cousin Eddie's rusted-out RV are two iconic items from the movie "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.""It is one of the most nostalgic Christmas movies of all time," said Mike Palacious, creative consultant with Lawyer Garage, a rare car collectible company. You can see the decked-out replicas for yourself in Virginia Beach starting this week. "2020 has been a rough year for everybody, so we tried to figure out a way to come up with holiday cheer," said Palacious. The holiday display also includes Clark Griswold on the roof putting up thousands of twinkling lights and cast cutouts for all to enjoy."This is a free, COVID-friendly drive-thru," he said. The display is just a taste of Lawyer Garage's secret collection. Monday, they allowed News 3 to get a glimpse of the rare finds. Red carpet lines the secret location, lined with bizarre rides and hard-to-find items. They include things like a restored 1959 Chevy Apache Good Humor ice cream truck, the original Batmobile, the Joker's motorcycle, a life-size Tonka Truck and the Mystery Machine, to name a few. There are more than 60 collectibles that make up Lawyer Garage’s unbelievable display."Cars are a language for everyone everyone can relate to a certain type of car, whether it be from childhood or a TV car you grew up watching. Cars are an international language," he said. But the language this year is Christmas cheer – in a time we all need it the most."Having all these out here is bringing so much joy and happiness to everyone," said Palacious. While the display is sure to bring joy, those at Lawyer Garage are all about charity. Kids can bring their wish list to Santa's mailbox, and the company will pick three families they'll buy gifts for this year. This article was written by Chelsea Donovan for WTKR. 1889
