SPRING VALLEY (KGTV) - San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies are investigating a Spring Valley stabbing that left one man dead and a woman injured.Deputies responded to calls about a stabbing just before midnight Friday at an apartment complex at 3560 James Circle, said Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.First responders rushed a man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, Seiver said. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson called the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store last week "reprehensible" and promised to take action so that it doesn't happen again.A store manager called the police because the two men were sitting in the store without placing an order. They were arrested for trespassing. The customers said they were waiting for another man to arrive. That person arrived at the store as they were being arrested.A Starbucks spokesperson says the manager in the store who called police is no longer working in that store, although she would not comment if she is working at another location.Johnson said there would be more training for staff on the issue of "unconscious bias.""I've been very focused on understanding what guidelines and what training ever let this happen," he said. "What happened was wrong and we will fix it."Johnson had already posted apologies on the company's website. He said the company wanted to "express our deepest apologies to the two men who were arrested with a goal of doing whatever we can to make things right." He said he hoped to meet with the two men in person to make a face-to-face apology. He was in Philadelphia on Monday when he conducted the interview on Good Morning America."Starbucks stands firmly against discrimination or racial profiling," he said on the blog post.Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney issued his own statement calling the incident "appears to exemplify what racial discrimination looks like in 2018." (KGTV) - The FBI joined the case of a part-time San Diego resident and tourist found murdered on vacation in the Caribbean in October.Rick Kuhnla says his family was told Monday morning that the FBI entered into an agreement for a joint investigation into the murder of his mother Marie Kuhnla, 62.Nearly two months later, the grief is still raw."At work, I will be going through the day sometimes and it will hit me: I'm not going to see my mom again. It's almost like a panic. It's horrible," said Rick Kuhnla.In mid-October, Marie Kuhnla set off on a girls trip to a Club Med resort in Turks and Caicos with two friends and fellow public defenders in New York. A few days into their trip, Marie went to her room to take a nap and wasn't heard from again. Her body was discovered in bushes on the edge of the resort days later. Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police told her family she was strangled, but Kuhnla says they've relayed to them little else."We haven't been given an autopsy report ... that was completed two weeks after her body was discovered. We don't know the time of death," said Kuhnla.Also upsetting for Kuhnla: it took 34 days to ship her body back, despite initial promises it would only be a few days."Because of how it was embalmed, it decayed a lot," said Kuhnla.That prevented family from have their own autopsy conducted and even viewing her body."It was heartbreaking and feeling disrespected ... makes me feel distrusting of the investigation," said Kuhnla.Kuhnla said his family has had concerns from the beginning. He says on the first night his mother's friends noticed her missing, police declined to search because it was dark out. According to Kuhnla, his family is now more hopeful with the FBI joining the probe. "I feel good about the FBI's involvement. I just want answers. She spent her life fighting for justice for those who couldn't afford it themselves. (AP) -- Health officials have confirmed a case of plague at South Lake Tahoe -- the first in California in five years.El Dorado County officials said Monday the California Department of Public Health notified them of the positive test of a local resident who is under medical care while recovering at home.Plague bacteria are most often transmitted by fleas that have acquired it from infected squirrels, chipmunks and other wild rodents.Health officials believe the South Tahoe resident may have been bitten by an infected flea while walking a dog along the Truckee River corridor or in the Tahoe Keys area on Tahoe's south shore. 664
