BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States agreed here Tuesday to further collaboration to jointly research in the health sector and in the control of diseases, especially pandemics, according to a joint statement issued after the talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama. The joint research will include that on stem cells. Both sides will deepen cooperation on global public health issues, including the prevention, surveillance, reporting and control of the A/H1N1 influenza, avian influenza, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, said the statement. The two sides will also enhance cooperation on food and product safety and quality, it added.

Speaking to the press after talks with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama, Hu said he and Obama spoke highly of the significant roles played by the G20 summit. "China and the United States would work together with all other members to fully carry out the commitments of all G20 summits and continuously strengthen the role of G20 in the management of the global economy, while pushing forward the international financial system reform and increasing the voices of developing countries on the global financial arena by ensuring that they are better represented," Hu said.
BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong said here on Thursday that the country will push forward educational reform to promote educational equity and quality. Liu made the remarks while inspecting the Central University for Nationalities and the Beijing Language and Culture University. Liu praised the Central University for Nationalities for their contribution to ethnic unity and the development of ethnic areas. She urged the university to help students find their jobs and help students from poor families. BRISBANE, Australia, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said here Saturday that China and Australia can lift their bilateral relationship to a new level through a strengthened dialogue and increased cooperation between the two trading partners. Li spoke during a meeting with Anna Bligh, the premier of Australia's state of Queensland. The vice premier said that during his visit to Australia a consensus was reached to enhance the Chinese-Australian friendship, to deepen mutual beneficial cooperation, and to respect and care for each other's core interests and important concerns. He also said the two sides released a joint declaration and signed a number of cooperation agreements.
