A "very bizarre" car crash in Canada resulted in the arrests of five people who were found naked after the collision. On Monday, officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were called to the scene of a crash involving a car and pickup truck in Nisku, Alberta, according to CBC News.At the scene, officers arrested three adults and two "youths." All five were naked when police caught them, according to the Edmonton Journal. The crash apparently happened after police said the suspects kidnapped three people — a man, a woman and an infant — from a home and forced them into the car. The man, who was apparently locked in the car's trunk, managed to escape the moving vehicle and flag down a man driving a pickup truck.CBC reported that the passerby managed to get all three kidnapping victims into his truck and was driving them away when he was rammed by the suspects, which forced his truck into a ditch.None of the victims were injured in the ordeal. The kidnapping suspects have not been named and it's unclear why they were naked at the scene of the crash. A Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigator described the incident as "very bizarre" to The Guardian. The two underage suspects were released without charges. The three unidentified adult suspects will face charges for kidnapping and resisting arrest, according to the Edmonton Journal. The kidnapping victims and suspects apparently know each other, police told CBC.Clint Davis is a reporter for the Scripps National Desk. (KGTV) — Vista Unified School District is postponing the in-person reopening of two high schools after learning that hundreds of students attended at least two Halloween parties last month.A letter from district and school officials to parents said that students from Vista High School and Mission Vista High School attended two large parties over the weekend and didn't practice social distancing or mask requirements.Because of the reported parties, VUSD said it will reschedule the reopening of in-person classes at both schools until Monday, Nov. 16. Mission Vista High was scheduled to resume in-person classes on Nov. 9, and Vista High was set to do the same on Nov. 12.RELATED: Several Vista Unified schools back to online learning after positive COVID-19 cases reported"At this time, we have legitimate concerns about the health and safety of the students who attended these large Halloween gatherings and the safety of all students and staff members if they return to in-person learning as scheduled..." the district's letter read.Officials urged parents to have their children tested for COVID-19 if they attended either party.Since Sept. 8, the district has reported 25 coronavirus cases among students and staff at its schools, including three cases at Vista High and two cases at Mission Vista.Vista Unified Superintendent Dr. Matthew Doyle said in a community update that the county is working with officials to go over any concerns and progress to resume in-person learning: 1497

(KGTV) - Sentencing will continue next week for the man convicted of killing his former business partner along with the man’s wife and two young sons. A San Bernardino County jury recommended the death penalty in June 2019 for Charles “Chase” Merritt. The recommendation came after Merritt was found guilty in the deaths of Joseph McStay, his wife Summer, and their two sons, Gianni and Joey Jr. A sentence was expected to be delivered Friday. The hearing will now resume on Tuesday. The family was last seen at a Fallbrook home in February 2010. Investigators had few leads in the case, at one point believing the McStays had crossed the border into Mexico voluntarily. Merritt alerted authorities to the disappearance and filed a missing persons report. RELATED: Death penalty recommended in Fallbrook family's murders / McStay family murder trial: Business partner found guilty to killingsIn November 2013, a motorcyclist found a piece of skull off Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County. That led to the discovery of the family’s remains in a shallow grave less than 20 miles from Merritt’s home. One year later, Merritt was arrested. During his trial, which started in January 2019, prosecutors said Merritt had been forging checks linked to the business he shared with Joseph McStay. During Friday's sentencing, Merritt tried to fire his attorney, Rajan Maline, after returning from the court's lunch break. The defense had spent the morning giving several motions about new cell phone evidence. The prosecution had yet to have the chance to argue against the motions before Merritt moved to fire Maline mid-trial. The judge denied Merritt's request and allowed the defense to continue arguments for a new trial because of the new evidence and alleged misconduct by the prosecution. 1795
