Rachel Langford's phone has been ringing nonstop since 7-11, when she gave birth to a girl at 7:11 pm, weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces. But the most exciting call came from 7-Eleven, which celebrated the news of J'Aime Brown's birth by pledging ,111 to her college fund. The convenience store chain previously had called to offer a gift basket with diapers and other merchandise, Langford said. The additional pledge was totally unexpected. When a company representative asked if she was interested, Langford's answer was a resounding yes."I was completely shocked," she told CNN. "I kind of just freaked out."A representative for 7-Eleven confirmed to CNN that the company has pledged the money for J'Amie's college fund, as well as onesies, diapers and other gifts. The young St. Louis family has been in the spotlight since Langford gave birth on 7-Eleven Day, a company holiday marked each year with free Slurpees. They've enjoyed the attention, but Langford says she's mainly focused on her family. In addition to J'Aime, Langford has a 6-year-old son. She says it's not easy juggling bills and providing for her children."It's hard for anybody to even get a trust fund for their children," she said. "To get a blessing like that, it just helps a lot."J'Aime, for her part, appears to be basking in the limelight. She mostly eats and sleeps -- no whining, says Langford."Since the baby's been here, strangely, we've been calm, getting more stuff done," she said. "We've been feeling really good." 1509

STATEN ISLAND — A Staten Island City Councilmember is leading the push for the borough to secede.Joe Borelli (R), who represents the 51st District and lives on Staten Island, will be introducing two proposals to form a committee and to begin a study to look at secession.Staten Islanders have long felt like they are the “forgotten borough.”Of the 51 member city council, Staten Island only has three, Borelli one of the three. Residents said they have mixed feelings about the matter.“It’s been a staple of the five boroughs,” said Tariq Harmon, a 27-year-resident of Staten Island “It has to be five boroughs other than that it wouldn’t be New York City, you losing everything.”“It’s kind of tough, we’re always fending for our own I feel like we’re always the last borough to get support,” said Annette Lyudin.Lyudin and her husband, Alex, are raising a family on the Island, where they’ve lived for the past four years, after moving from Brooklyn.“It’s quiet, safe, great schools, great restaurants, it’s a relaxing place to live,” said Alex Lyudin.Of course as any New Yorker knows, this is not the first time there has been talk of secession. The last time it gained traction was 30 years ago in 1989.In a 1990 referendum, more than 80 percent of Staten Islanders voted to begin the secession process. Then on Election Day in November 1993, 65% of Staten Islanders voted by ballot in favor of becoming an independent city. But a vote never made it to the state level, many blaming then New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver for refusing to put it to a vote at the state level. As it did back then, questions now arise such as Will the borough survive financially on its own? Will taxes go up to pay for resources?Even..,will the Staten Island ferry no longer be free? While Staten Island may often seem like a land of its own - afterall it’s the only borough that overwhelmingly voted for President Trump - only time will tell if we have our own version of Brexit. 1987

Summertime is almost over, and that means back to the grind. For parents, it can be stressful to get kids back on a good sleep routine.Lauren Preusz is a mother of three young children and knows vacations, cookouts and late bedtimes must come to an end. But how?"Bedtime definitely got pushed back a lot later than normal, and then they were sleeping in later," Preusz said. "But with school coming up they can't be staying up to 9 p.m. or 9:30 p.m., then waking up and getting to school by 8 a.m."She says she's worried about what later bedtimes could do to her children once school begins."I didn't want to worry about behavioral issues at school, or them being too tired to actually be present, participate, and learn," Preusz said.Sleep experts and doctors alike recommending rolling bedtime back about 15- to 20-minute a day until school starts to make sure kids are ready for a new sleep pattern."This is now the time you should be moving the bedtime up and that bedtime routine close to bedtime, so they associate the routine with the actual going to bed," said Dr. Celina Moore, a pediatrician.Preusz hired the Cradle Coach, a team of sleep consultants, to help get her family back in the routine of early bedtimes. The Cradle Coach team says kids need between 10 and 12 hours of sleep per night."Routine is huge," Cradle Coach sleep consultant Janelle Aubert said. "Start bedtime routine about 45 minutes before bed and making sure your child has plenty of time to unwind."In addition, Aubert recommends looking at children's diets and cutting back on sugar. She also says first-time students can experience some sleep regression from the stress of a new routine."Take time to prepare," said Aubert. "Talk about it. Show them pictures and visuals and be sure to increase quality and one-on-one time with them.""Start talking about exactly what's going to happen. Mommy is going to take you in the morning. Daddy is going to pick you up," Aubert said. This story was originally published by Tory Dunnan on 2025

Stranded for hours on a snowy tarmac, passengers on an Air Canada flight were beginning to feel the stress, but their pilot knew the answer: 23 pizzas delivered to the airplane's door.Air Canada Flight 608 left Toronto bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Monday night, but bad weather forced the aircraft to be diverted to Fredericton, New Brunswick. After several hours stuck in the plane, the pilot decided to order food.Jofee Larivée, the manager at Minglers Restaurant and Pub in Oromocto, received the pilot's call and took down his order for 23 pizzas topped with cheese and pepperoni."We told him we could have them made in an hour or hour and a half," Larivée said. She said they have never delivered pizza to an airplane, and they were "laughing all night" about the unusual order. Her crew got the pizzas ready in an hour and sent them to the airport via Minglers' delivery service.Larivée said she called the plane to tell the pilot of the pizzas' arrival and the captain sent people to meet the delivery at the door.Passenger Philomena Hughes told 1069
