SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Video shows a brutal fight outside a Pacific Beach bar and restaurant that sent a bouncer to the hospital with critical injuries. The assault happened at about 9:20 p.m. at the Firehouse, 722 Grand Ave., according to San Diego Police. Four men tried to get into the restaurant through a side entrance but the main bouncer told them to use the main door, officers said. One of the men picked up a metal crowd barrier stanchion pole and struck the bouncer over the head, said police. The bouncer suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed. Officers said he is currently in critical but stable condition in the hospital. After the pole strike, the three other men in the group began fighting with security staff members. One of the bouncers suffered a broken nose and the other two had bumps and bruises, police said. The man responsible for the pole attack is described as African-American, in his 30s, 6’0” tall, 250 pounds with a muscular build. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  On Monday a settlement was reached in two cases against San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Richard Fischer. Those settlements come to a total of more than 0,000. 10News has been covering the story since November when a victim shared her story with Reporter Steve Fiorina. The Sheriff's Department opened an investigation into Fischer last fall after a woman claimed he groped her while responding to a service call.The investigation then expanded to more than a dozen incidents against Fischer dating back to 2015.RELATED: San Diego County sheriff's deputy accused of sexual misconduct pleads not guiltyThe 32-year-old deputy is on unpaid leave and out on bail pending criminal court cases. At his February arraignment in a Vista courtroom, Fischer pleaded not guilty to all charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two men died after authorities said they jumped from a bridge following a car crash on a Carmel Valley freeway.It's the fourth incident where someone has died after falling off of a San Diego area bridge in a little more than a year.In April Team 10 spoke to Gwendolyn Sneed. Her partner of 20 years, Bob Bruno, died in a tragic incident at the Pine Valley Bridge.Bruno died, not in the accident on the bridge, but while trying to help a family in need. He'd seen a vehicle stopped on the side of the bridge and pulled over to help. Sneed said a family with a baby was stranded. Bruno was in the process of helping move the baby seat when a Ford F-150 pickup truck drove over a patch of ice and barreled toward Bruno.RELATED: 2 dead, 2 teen girls injured after jump from San Diego bridge following car crashBruno jumped out of the way to avoid being hit, but instead of landing on solid ground, he hopped over the side of the bridge guardrail and fell into the canyon below."I think Caltrans just needs to take a look at what the safety measures could be, lighting, higher guard rails, I don't know what that is, signage," Sneed said at the time.While Bruno's incident is tragic, Team 10 discovered two other unrelated incidents where people lost their lives falling off of San Diego-area bridges in the span on a year.In September 2018, Caltrans Highway Maintenance Lead Worker William Casdorph fell while he and his crew were doing maintenance work on the southbound State Route 163 overcross to southbound Interstate 805. He sustained significant injuries and died at the hospital.In April 2018, Martin Lapisch fell to his death from State Route 125 in the Bonita area after a crash in which his car struck and killed a deer on the freeway. Authorities said it appeared he jumped over the side of the bridge, possibly to get to a safe location, and didn't realize there was a 40-foot drop.In April, investigator Adam Racusin asked Caltrans about safety when it comes to bridges and overpasses."We are always looking for improvements of safety whether it's on our bridges or our regular highways," Caltrans Headquarters Division Chief of Maintenance Dennis Agar said at the time.Agar told 10News the agency always talks about incidents or close calls and how to prevent them. They even travel to other states to see how they handle safety."We make sure we do everything we can to address the concerns, especially with safety that brings up to our office and we try to address it statewide," he said in April.On Wednesday Team 10 asked Caltrans if there are any safety measures the agency is looking at to try and prevent this type of tragedy.Late Wednesday afternoon Caltrans Public Information Officer Edward Cartagena released a statement saying, "Caltrans extends its sympathies to the families of the deceased and hopes for a quick recovery for the injured. Although Caltrans will be looking into this incident, we want to allow the CHP to conduct and conclude their investigation."The California Highway Patrol says if your vehicle gets stuck on a bridge try and get to a safe location. If that's not possible, the best thing to do is stay in your vehicle with your seatbelt on and calls 911. 3226

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two children suffered injuries Monday when a pick-up truck driven by an elderly man hit tables and parked cars outside a University City Starbucks.The crash happened about 8 a.m. outside the coffee shop at 3202 Governor Drive at Regents Road, according to San Diego Police. The Starbucks is near the University City Post Office.The 85-year-old man driving the truck jumped the curb, crashing into customers.A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police did not release details about her condition. A 2-year-old girl had an injury to her lip but did not need further treatment.San Diego Police have not announced what caused the crash. 689

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While enjoying a moment at the park over the weekend, a Carlsbad family was on the receiving end of an act of kindness from a stranger. The family says they are now hoping to find that person to say thank you.After months of staying at home, the family was excited to spend a day at Buccaneer Park in Oceanside. Eleven-year-old Jacobi and 12-year-old Jordan couldn’t wait to get outside.“They’re too old of the playground area, the swings and things like that,” says mom Tamara Coronado. “They look forward to the open space, the grass area, and definitely the basketball courts.”But Coronado says park officials had not yet reinstalled the basketball hoops, something the boys were looking forward to. The kids were left to make up their own games. It caught the attention of one man.“Forty-five minutes to an hour later, he came back… with a crafting reef from Dollar Tree and a very small basketball that would fit inside.”The man used a power drill to attach the wreath to a tree to form a makeshift hoop so that the boys could play basketball.“All that he asked was that we leave the wreath and the ball in place so that after we left, other families could use it,” says Coronado. “But the fact that he went out of his way like he did was, I just couldn’t believe it.”The mom says even though a lot is going on around the country, she wants others to know there are still kind people in the world. The family didn’t get the man’s name, but they’re hoping to find him to say thank you.“He may have not thought twice about it, and hasn’t thought about it since, but he really touched me and my family.” 1632
