San Diego City Council Tuesday night unanimously passed the location of a high-pressure underground pipeline to move sewage from San Diego's Morena treatment plant to a facility in Miramar. Residents say they're concerned the pipeline could break, wreaking havoc on the area. "Our concern is if that line was ruptured, bnecause it's under so miuch pressure, that it would spew raw sewage into the environment," said Ruth DeSantis, a longtime U.C. resident who heads the area's community foundation. DeSantis added that neighbors are concerned over traffic, noise, property values, and even smells seeping out of vents. There's a middle school, park, and hundreds of homes nearby. The city says it took various measures to minimize health and safety hazards, although some impacts like noise and traffic are unavoidable during construction.San Diego spokesman Jerry McCormick added that sewage geysers would not be possible under the pipeline system."Unlike a potable water system, where there are multiple loops to provide continuous pressure and in time of a rupture must be isolated by multiple valves, often times creating large releases of water, this system will not operate like that," McCormick said. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric, which is blamed for some of California's deadliest recent fires, knew for years that dozens of its aging power lines posed a wildfire threat but avoided replacing or repairing them, it was reported Wednesday.The Wall Street Journal, using company documents obtained under the federal Freedom of Information Act, reported that the utility told the U.S. Forest Service in 2017 and 2018 that 49 aging steel towers on one transmission line needed replacement and another 57 needed replacement of their hardware and aluminum lines.The Journal previously reported that PG&E delayed safety work on the line, known as the Caribou-Palermo line, for five years.State investigators said an equipment failure on that line sparked a November wildfire that essentially wiped out the Northern California town of Paradise and killed 85 people. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— Thanksgiving is just four days away, and preparations are already underway for the 17th Annual Father Joe’s Villages Thanksgiving 5K Run.Proceeds from the race and festivities go toward the one million meals the organization serves to those who need it every year. One of the biggest draws of the event is the pie made by the organization’s Culinary Arts program students. The students are making 300 pumpkin pies, 200 apple pies, and 100 blueberry pies ahead of the race, possibly more if they get additional pre-orders. The pies are served the day before Thanksgiving at the shelter downtown. The pies are also sold at Balboa Park on race day."These are individuals who come to us and were homeless and now we're trying to get them up on their feet,” Deacon Joe Vargas, President of Father Joe’s Villages, said.The students were once homeless but decided that cooking would help get them out of poverty. They are part of a 14-week intensive program, where 92% of graduates get jobs in the field.10News met Dorothea Sontag, a disabled Air Force Veteran, who was once a volunteer at Father Joe’s.
