Lawmakers in Florida are tired of the whole "fall back" and "spring forward" rigamarole. So they've approved a bill to keep Daylight Saving Time going throughout the year in their state.It took the state Senate less than a minute Tuesday to pass the "Sunshine Protection Act." There were only two dissenters. (The House passed it 103-11 on February 14.)The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Rick Scott -- but it's far from a done deal after that,Even if the governor approves, a change like this will literally take an act of Congress.But if all is approved, Floridians -- who'll set their clocks ahead one hour this Sunday when Daylight Saving Time begins -- won't have to mess with it ever again.Florida will then join Hawaii and most of Arizona, the two places that are exempt from the Uniform Time Act of 1966. (KGTV) — Police are searching for a man who disappeared from an independent living facility in la Mesa.La Mesa Police say Attila "Al" Buki left his home in the 7900 block of Culowee Street at about 7 p.m. on Sunday and did not return.Buki was on foot and does not have access to a vehicle, police say. He also has cognitive delays and suffers from dementia.Buki frequents the area near La Mesa Springs Shopping Center, police added.He's described as a Caucasian man, who was last seen wearing a long grey polo shirt, dark grey sweatpants, and Velcro sandals.Anyone with information as to Buki's whereabouts is asked to call La Mesa Police at 619-667-1400. 679

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - The U.S Army Corps of Engineers will begin a remedial search for explosives in the area around U.C. San Diego, which was formerly used as a Marine artillery range.Over the years, munitions and debris have been found in the area though none of them have been live explosives.However, Harry Hendler, the project manager with the Army Corp warns, “there’s always a potential for having some type of risk of explosion or detonation.”The goal of the search is to assess the current risk in undeveloped land. LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Thousands of MGM Resorts employees will lose their jobs effective Aug. 31, according to a letter sent this morning by CEO Bill Hornbuckle.Approximately 18,000 are being laid off. It is unclear how many Las Vegas employees will be affected. Most but not all of the MGM Resorts properties have reopened in Las Vegas.The hotel-casinos were forced to close because of the coronavirus pandemic. They were allowed to reopen June 4 but business has not been the same.MGM Resorts also operates casinos in Mississippi, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York and overseas in Macao. It is not clear how many employees at each locations are impacted by the lay offs.
