Ethan Melzer, a 22-year-old US Army private, has been indicted for allegedly plotting a “mass casualty” attack on his Army unit.In its announcement of the indictment, the Department of Justice said that Melzer was sending sensitive military information to members of a neo-Nazi group to help facilitate the attack.Melzer has been charged with conspiring and attempting to murder U.S. nationals, conspiring and attempting to murder military service members, providing and attempting to provide material support to terrorists, and conspiring to murder and maim in a foreign country.The DOJ said that the FBI thwarted the attack in May 2020 before arresting Melzer on June 10.The DOJ said that Melzer was a member of O9A, a group that officials say has participated in acts of violence.Melzer was informed of his unit’s deployment in April 2020. ENCINITAS (KGTV and CNS) - A body was found in a creek bed near Moonlight State Beach Monday. A passer-by spotted the dead person behind the tennis courts at Cotton Wood Creek near the intersection of Second and West B streets in Encinitas about 9:30 a.m., according to sheriff's officials. The deceased was described only as a while male, investigators said.Deputies searched the area and found no initial signs of injury or foul play.The Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, and notify the family. 565

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - A North County school district said it was hacked last week, forcing them to shut down parts of their network during registration week.The San Dieguito Union High School District sent out an email to parents on Thursday alerting them to “an attempted malware attack” on August 9.While they called it “attempted,” Superintendent Robert Haley confirmed to 10News that district IT employees detected malware implanted in the district’s system. However, Haley assured parents that no data had been viewed or taken from their network.As of Thursday, the parent portal remained shut down, which is where parents were supposed to input information for the start of the school year.In the email to parents, Haley said the portal would remain unavailable through the weekend. They have extended the deadline for parents to submit the required information.“SDUHSD is sorry for the inconvenience, however, protecting student and staff privacy is of the utmost importance,” wrote Haley. 1009

(KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a man in a truck treating an Escondido neighborhood like a dumping ground.In the video, a white truck pulls up in the 800 block of North Citrus Avenue just before 1 p.m.  The driver goes to the back and casually pulls the couch onto the street, before going back to the truck to toss out a piece of carpet. He then drives off."Just makes our neighborhood look bad and ugly, and we don't want that," said Gil Gomez who lives feet from where the couch was dumped.His frustrations growing every time he watches the video, recorded from his Ring camera. That's because the truck appears to be a newer model Ford F-150."If you can afford to buy a brand new truck, you can afford to get rid of this thing properly," said Gomez.Gomez fears this type thing could attract more dumping."It might happen around the corner next time. That is the type of culture we cannot stand for," said Gomez.Gomez posted the video on the Neighbors by Ring app to track the person down and to send a message to would-be dumpers. "Not in our neighborhood.
