The White House says a member of Vice President Mike Pence’s staff has tested positive for coronavirus.Pence’s spokeswoman Katie Miller said Friday that the staff member, who is not being identified, did not have “close contact” to either the vice president or President Donald Trump.Miller said contact tracing, or contacting everyone the individual has been in contact with, is being conducted in accordance with guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Miller says Pence’s office was notified Friday evening of the positive test result. 578

But what draws tourists to this place is the one person that never left. “People come here because they’re curious about the Frozen Dead Guy,” says Anne Taylor, the woman who runs the Nederland visitor center. “The man’s name – we call him Grandpa – Bredo Morstol. His family in Norway believed in cryonics, and when he passed away there, they sent him to a lab in California. And some point in the 90s, his grandson was here and he decided to have him sent here to the property that he had here up on the hill.”According to Taylor, in 1993, Bredo believed in cryonics and the possibility of being brought back to life after the advanced of modern medicine. But one question comes to mind to a lot of tourists: how is this legal?“Well, it’s not legal,” says Taylor. “At that point, there was no ordinance about it, because no one would think of having an ordinance about it. When this all came about, and it had to go to town council, the trustees passed an ordinance. Nobody else can do this, but grandpa got grandfathered in, so he’s still alive.”And year round, there is one man who takes care of Bredo. “Every two weeks, I come up here and bring in the dry ice,” says Brad Wickham, the caretaker of Bredo. “I take care of other needs that might need to be done, like trash off the property or keeping other people off the property.”Bredo is tucked away in a shed on what was his property. The Senate committee that oversees the US aviation industry will hold a hearing on air safety, following the weekend's deadly crash in Ethiopia, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation announced Tuesday."It is important to allow the FAA, NTSB and other agencies to conduct thorough investigations to ensure they have as much information as possible to make informed decisions," said Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi in his statement. "Thousands of passengers every day depend on the aviation system to get them safely to their destinations, and we must never become complacent with the level of safety in our system. Therefore, the committee plans to hold a hearing reviewing the state of aviation safety to ensure that safety is maintained for all travelers."The announcement of the hearing follows days of lawmakers asking questions about and some demanding the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which was not only the model of plane that crashed over the weekend but also was the same type of vessel that went down over the Java Sea last October in a separate deadly cash.Democratic Sen. The Pentagon is slashing .8 billion in recently passed military funding to finance construction of the president's long-sought U.S.-Mexico border wall. Thursday's move by the Pentagon angered not just Democrats but also GOP defense hawks. It would cut money for National Guard units, shipbuilding accounts and 17 aircraft and transfer it to anti-drug accounts that can finance construction of new wall. The maneuver was announced in “reprogramming” documents provided to lawmakers and came in for harsh criticism by Rep. Mack Thornberry of Texas, the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee. The US announced major new restrictions on US citizens traveling to Cuba on Tuesday.The new regulations announced by the Treasury will block the most common way Americans are able to visit the island through organized tour groups that license US citizens to travel automatically.These regulatory changes were originally announced on April 17. At the time, White House national security adviser John Bolton said the Treasury Department would "implement further regulatory changes to restrict non-family travel to Cuba."The new restrictions will prohibit cruise ship passengers whose trips are arranged as organized tours.The Trump administration recently allowed US companies and Cuban-Americans to sue companies using property that was seized after the 1959 Cuban revolution, including cruise ship terminals and airports.Carnival Cruise Line was the first company to be sued under Title III of the Helms-Burton law, which previous administrations had waived. 970
