There are 88 national park forests in the US you could choose from that would allow you to cut your own Christmas tree. And all you need is a Christmas tree cutting permit.According to the U.S. Forest Service, visitors need a Forest Service-issued permit, which is available for purchase on the Recreation.gov website or at local offices.According to a press release, the Forest Service began selling permits in a "modernize" way on Oct. 15, as a way to minimize in-person interaction during the coronavirus pandemic. The program, the agency said, is also good for the forest."The Christmas tree permit program is also a tool used in thinning dense, unhealthy stands of trees," the agency stated in an October press release. "Forest health experts help identify areas where Christmas trees can be cut, opening up forage for wildlife and allowing the remaining trees to grow larger."According to the Forest Service, there are specific guidelines to follow, including having your permit on you at all times. You'll also need to contact the forest district office nearest you for cutting instructions. The permits will set you back between to , varying by location. 1173
Three people were killed and 16 were injured after a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus and a private tour bus collided in Queens, causing one of the buses to crash into a building. The driver of the Dahlia Travel and Tours bus, which struck the building, was killed in the crash, along with a passenger in the MTA bus and a pedestrian on the sidewalk, according to the NYPD."We've had a really tragic morning here in Flushing, Queens. Just shocking to see the scene over there. Hard to compare it to anything I've ever seen, the sheer destruction from the impact of this collision," said Mayor Bill de Blasio during a press conference Monday morning.According to the MTA, a Q20 bus was struck by the private bus on Northern Boulevard and Main Street at 6:21 a.m. Investigators were interviewing the driver of the MTA bus, who is among the injured. The injured all have been transported to nearby hospitals, de Blasio said."The first thing we need to understand is what happened here," he said, "because we do not know exactly what happened, if anybody was specifically at fault."The FDNY was working on accessing the building impacted by the crash to make sure it is secure and safe."The impact of this collision on the building was very, very substantial," said de Blasio. The cause of the collision is still being investigated."Very concerned about the speed, but the most important thing is safety. We want to make sure we understand exactly what happened and we prevent this from ever happening again," said MTA Chairman Joe Lhota.A representative for Dahlia Travel and Tours could not immediately be reached for comment.The-CNN-Wire 1650

To the world she was the Queen of Soul. To Cristal Franklin, she was so much more.“I saw her as my aunt. The one who cooked dinner for my roommate from college when I came home. The one who bought the best gifts on earth for Christmas and birthdays,” Franklin said.Franklin says she visited her aunt in the days before she died, hoping for a miracle, but knowing her time would likely be short She got word she had passed as she left town.“We were taking my daughter to college when we got the news. I made it on the plane. When the door closed, I lost it,” said Cristal. She drove by the Charles H Wright Museum of African American History the night before the public visitation and saw already overwhelming crowds. In her grief, she decided to take food to those first in line and learn about what her aunt meant to them.Cristal, a clothing designer, known as CFranks, decided to make a shirt that listed he aunt's accomplishments.“I want people to know she was more than a singer,” Franklin said. “She was a civil rights activist.”“I want people to listen to the old songs and play them for their children," she said. She shared memories of her aunt helping students pay for college, seeing families lose their belongings in a fire and responding, helping activists get out of prison, and paying for funerals of those in need.“It is overwhelming because she is our aunt,” Franklin said.Cristal is hoping people learn about her aunt through her creation. Therapists are volunteering their time to help health care workers during the coronavirus pandemic.A nonprofit called The Emotional PPE Project is connecting medical workers in need with licensed mental health professionals. They can contact each other directly.“We think that's actually very important, because there are so many barriers to people receiving help, one of them being concerns about licensing implications or concerns about stigma,” said Dr. Daniel Saddawi-Konefka, Board Director and Co-Founder of The Emotional PPE Project.Saddawi-Konefka says it started with a simple text from his neuroscientist neighbor in March, saying “what can I do to help?”Together, the two of them created the online directory for volunteer therapists. While others were talking about ventilator and PPE shortages, Saddawi-Konefka realized resilience would be a crucial problem.“Health care workers, they experience higher levels of burnout, higher levels of depression, and despite that are less good at asking for helping, are less good at reaching out for help,” said Saddawi-Konefka.The group hopes to keep the program alive through the pandemic. They're hoping to work with the volunteer therapists for future plans. 1221
