(KGTV) -- Police arrested a 16-year-old boy after he reportedly killed a duck with a golf club in Ontario Wednesday, according to ABC 7 in Chicago.The teen shared video that appeared to show him striking the duck. The duck’s remains were later found at the Whispering Lakes Golf Course.The 16-year-old was issued a citation for felony animal abuse after being arrested at his home.Members of the Colony High School golfing team were practicing when one of them said they accidentally hit a duck while teeing off.The boy claims he killed the duck to put it out of its misery, however, police say there may be more to the story due to the video being posted on social media. Police have said the investigation is ongoing. 748

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was hit and killed by a train while crossing the tracks in Oceanside Saturday night.According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the man was hit around 11:20 p.m. on the 200 block of Surfrider Way. Deputies say the southbound train was traveling 55 miles per hour when the engineer spotted a man duck under the pedestrian crossing guard and try to run across the track. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) — Bob Walker has been an Oceanside resident for 32 years, “I used to take my children down here to this beach right here we would put our towels on the sand, walk out to the waters edge and paddle out and surf.” If you look at that same beach now, the sand has been washed away, “you do not see people using this beach and beach access whatsoever, we don’t have this beach any longer,” Walker tells 10News. He’s now co-founder of Save Oceanside Sand, a local group advocating for jetties to be built along the coast to help build back up beaches and maintain sand levels. They plan to propose a jetty at Tyson Street, Wisconsin Street, Buccaneer Beach and St. Malo. Walker tells 10News the jetties will work to retain the sand, similarly to what Newport Beach has done with theirs, “they’ve got they have a series of eight groins." Groins, also known as jetties, will help with the city’s annual dredging process. Vicki Casper has also lived in Oceanside for over two decades, familiar with the dredging process, she says more needs to be done, “I’ve watched the sand be pumped back on the beach when they do the dredging and a month later its gone again."The sand washes away with the southern swell, migrates toward La Jolla. Walker tells 10News something needs to be done before North County loses all of its beaches, “this is the new reality the fact that we do not have any sand here whatsoever anymore.” 1434

Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon has pulled out of a job as a correspondent for NBC at the Winter Games in South Korea.News broke earlier Sunday that Rippon, one of the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete at the Olympics, was being hired to work on TV, digital and social media for NBC for the remainder of the Games in Pyeongchang.NBC tweeted out the news Sunday morning, welcoming the 28-year-old bronze medalist to its team.But Rippon said hours later that although he was "so flattered" by NBC's offer, he decided against the move because it would mean leaving his U.S. teammates and the Olympic Village."It's so important to me, you know, I worked so hard to be on this Olympic team, and my teammates and my friends were there for me during my events, and that meant so much to me, that I really feel like I need to be there for them during their events," he said on NBCSN.NBC's article online about Rippon becoming one of its correspondents now redirects readers to his Olympic profile page.Rippon later suggested he only learned about the network's plans to hire him from social media."I actually found everything out about the offer via twitter HAHA," he tweeted. Don't let fake news distract you. Kenworthy and Rippon are the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete in the Games.The photo showed them hugging with the caption: "I feel incredibly honored to be here in Korea competing for the US and I'm so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy!
