BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) vowed Friday to enhance bilateral ties with Estonia.Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made this pledge during his meeting with visiting President of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia Ene Ergma in Beijing.Li praised the recent growth of relations and cooperation between the two nations, saying China values its ties with Estonia and regards the country as an important partner in the Baltic Sea region.China would work to increase the mutual political trust with Estonia, encourage the exchange and communications between the two business communities and strengthen the humanitarian exchange between the two peoples, Li said.Li recalled his visit to Estonia last September and applauded the close contact established between the CPC and the Estonian political parties, expressing his hope that the two sides could step up exchanges and cooperation based on the principles of independence, equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.He also briefed the Estonian guests about China's latest economic and social developments.Ergma, who was visiting Beijing at the invitation of Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo, said Estonia attaches great importance to its relations with China and is expecting to expand cooperation with China in fields such as biology and information technology.The Estonian parliamentary delegation arrived in China on Wednesday. GUANGZHOU, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- A fishing boat with at least 13 crew aboard has been missing for a week in waters off the coast of south China's Guangdong Province, authorities said Friday.The boat, registered in Yangxi County, Yangjiang City, was unable to be located at its anchoring spot in Dongping Port at 3 a.m. on Dec. 16, when other boats in the port that were taking shelter from strong winds received the boat's distress call, Yangxi County marine affairs officials said.Winds of up to 72 kilometers per hour started blowing on Dec. 15, whipping up five- to six-meter-high waves, the official said.The family of the boat's owner, Feng Zixing, reported the boat missing on Dec. 17, after private searches failed to find the boat or its crew.Feng and most of the missing crew are from the county's Lanpao Village.A search for the boat had found nothing by 7 p.m. Friday.The 28-meter-long, 5-meter-wide boat was built with steel in 2001. It was equipped with radar and walkie-talkies.

MINSK, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- China and Belarus have a bright prospect for cooperation as the two countries share highly economic complementarity, says the Chinese ambassador to Belarus.Ambassador Lu Guicheng said that in recent years, China-Belarus ties have expanded rapidly and have been promoted by the leaders of both countries.The ambassador also said in the interview with Xinhua that the two countries are mutually supportive of each other on global affairs and frequent interactions between senior officials of the two countries have injected strong momentum into the development of bilateral ties.Lu also stressed that China-Belarus reciprocal economic cooperation is flourishing, with the smooth development of some major cooperative projects on infrastructure construction."China and Belarus are economically complementary on resource, market, fund and equipment, and thus share a broad prospect for cooperation," Lu told Xinhua.Meanwhile, the diplomat mentioned the profound friendship between the Chinese and Belarusian peoples.After a deadly earthquake struck China's northwestern region of Yushu in April, Belarus was among the first to extend condolences and provided aid to the people affected, Lu said.
