LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The man accused of gunning down rapper Nipsey Hussle and injuring two other men in South Los Angeles pleaded not guilty Thursday. Eric Ronald Holder Jr., 29, was charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.Holder, an aspiring rapper, could face a potential life prison sentence if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.RELATED: Man suspected of killing rapper Nipsey Hussle caught in Los AngelesHolder -- who was arrested Tuesday in Bellflower -- is accused of fatally shooting the 33-year-old rapper about 3:20 p.m. Sunday in front of The Marathon Clothing store the singer owned in the 3400 block of West Slauson Avenue in the Hyde Park area. Two other men were also wounded in the attack, Los Angeles police Chief Michel Moore said Holder got into some type of personal dispute with the rapper outside the store, then left and returned with a handgun. Hussle was shot in the head and body and died at a hospital, according to police and the coroner's office. The police chief declined to discuss the nature of the disagreement between Holder and Hussle but stressed the shooting appeared to be a result of that dispute, not any type of gang rivalry or feud.``We believe this to be a dispute between Mr. Hussle and Mr. Holder,'' Moore said. ``I'm not going to go into the conversations, but it appears to be a personal matter between the two of them.''Holder was arrested around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 9000 block of Artesia Boulevard in Bellflower by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies after a witness called authorities to report seeing a person believed to be Holder. Sheriff's deputies detained him outside a mental health facility, and Los Angeles police officers went to the sheriff's Lakewood station and confirmed the man was indeed Holder.RELATED: Grammy-nominated rapper Nipsey Hussle dies in LA shootingA witness told the website The Blast that Holder had called a mental health facility and claimed he needed ``help.'' Law enforcement sources told TMZ.com that the LAPD was keeping Holder in solitary confinement, with authorities refusing to let him mingle with the general inmate population for fear that he'll be attacked. The sources said he'll remain in solitary once he's transferred to L.A. County Jail. Hussle's longtime girlfriend, actress Lauren London, broke her silence about the rapper's death Tuesday night, posting a message on Instagram along with a series of photos.``I am completely lost,'' she wrote in the poem-formatted message. ``I've lost my best friend/My sanctuary/My protector/My soul.../I'm lost without you/We are lost without you babe/I have no words.''London, known for her work on ``ATL'' and ``Entourage,'' had been with Hussle for about five years, and the couple had a 2-year-old son, Kross. Holder has a criminal record that includes a 2009 arrest and charge of domestic battery against the mother of his child, The Blast reported. RELATED: Nipsey Hussle shooting death: Community activists want Eric Holder getaway driver arrestedAccording to court records, Holder was ordered not to ``own, use or possess any dangerous or deadly weapons, including firearms, knives or other concealable weapons,'' The Blast reported. Hussle transformed himself from a South Los Angeles gang member to a rap musician and channeled his success into efforts to help others stay out of gangs. He bought shoes for students, re-paved basketball courts and provided jobs and shelter for the homeless.Hussle helped renovate a Mid-City roller rink and redeveloped the strip mall that housed his Marathon Clothing shop where he was fatally wounded.Community activist Najee Ali earlier Thursday called for the arrest of the woman who allegedly drove Holder away from the scene. The woman who drove the getaway car spoke with LAPD detectives Tuesday and was allowed to go free, apparently saying she was unaware of Holder's alleged role in the slaying, law enforcement sources told the celebrity news website TMZ.com. 4087

LOGAN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The man involved in the officer-involved shooting in Logan Heights previously faced an attempted murder charge, according to court records. Witness video obtained by 10News shows the suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Enrique Aguilar, walking in the middle of the street. In the video, it appears Aguilar starts walking toward the direction of police. Yells of “drop the gun” could be heard as Aguilar continues walking down the street. As Aguilar proceeds toward officers, police say he pointed a weapon at them. Several shots were fired and Aguilar fell to the ground. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say he was struck at least once and underwent surgery. Records uncovered by Team 10 show Aguilar’s criminal past dates back more than a decade—from vehicle code violations to drug offenses. In 2010, he faced attempted robbery charges. The following year, Aguilar and two others were charged with attempted murder and first-degree robbery. Documents show he was connected to a local gang. Aguilar entered a plea deal and pleaded guilty to robbery, according to documents. He was sentenced to six years in prison. In the court file, we found a letter he wrote in 2012 saying in part:“I am remorseful for my involvement that I took part in and take full responsibility for my own actions. Sometimes circumstances put us in situations that later on we regret. I’m thankful to God that nobody got killed in this matter. My intentions were never, never to hurt anybody… I wish I could take it all back so I could be with my family. I continuously apologize to the victim and my loved ones for the pain I’m putting them thru [sic]; not being able to support my wife as well for my 3 babies.” Aguilar is now in jail facing a slew of charges including three counts of first-degree attempted murder, attempted assault with a firearm, receiving stolen property, participating in a criminal street gang, and a felon in possession of a firearm. Because of his criminal past, he was not supposed to own any weapons. Aguilar is scheduled to appear in court in the next couple of days. The officers involved in the shooting were not hurt. They have not yet been identified. 2249

LONDON (AP) — John le Carre, a spy turned novelist who became the preeminent writer of espionage fiction in English, has died at the age of 89.Le Carre’s literary agency, Curtis Brown, said Sunday that he died in Cornwall, southwest England on Saturday after a short illness. His family said he died of pneumonia and the death was not related to COVID-19.Born David Cornwell, le Carre worked for Britain’s intelligence service before turning his experience into fiction in works, including “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.”In the quiet, watchful spymaster George Smiley, he created one of 20th-century fiction’s iconic characters — a decent man at the heart of a web of deceit. 719

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Voters who hate resetting their clocks twice a year took the first step Tuesday to making daylight saving time year-round in California. With nearly 4.5 million ballots counted, Proposition 7 led by more than 62 percent. The measure permits the state Legislature to establish permanent daylight saving time. However, a change in federal law would be required before the initiative can take effect. The time-change issue was fresh on voters' minds when they went to the polls. California and most of the rest of the nation reset clocks last Sunday, falling back on standard time and seeing the day get dark one hour earlier.Democratic Rep. Kansen Chu of San Jose said last month that he sponsored Proposition 7 after his dentist called him to complain about springing forward when clocks are moved up an hour every March. That switch takes away an hour's sleep in the middle of the night as it shifts an hour of sunlight from the morning to the evening.Chu said he investigated the issue further and learned the original reason for implementing daylight saving — to save energy during World War I— no longer seemed to apply to the modern world.Chu said he also came across studies showing an increased risk of car accidents and heart attacks following the spring change when people lose an hour of sleep."It's a public safety measure," Chu said. "And I don't know anybody who really enjoys doing this adjustment of their schedule twice a year."Opponents argued that even if California voters and the Legislature approve year-round daylight saving, the hurdle of getting the federal government to agree is too high given the state's tense relationship with Washington.RELATED CONTENT 1706
