Spending a year in space not only changes your outlook, it transforms your genes.Preliminary results from NASA's Twins Study reveal that 7% of astronaut Scott Kelly's genes did not return to normal after his return to Earth two years ago.The study looks at what happened to Kelly before, during and after he spent one year aboard the International Space Station through an extensive comparison with his identical twin, Mark, who remained on Earth.NASA has learned that the formerly identical twins are no longer genetically the same. 561

Sixteen Idaho residents have been indicted on charges stemming from two federal investigations –- one, involving the large-scale manufacturing and sale of counterfeit cell phones, and the other, a cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine ring, according to a Thursday morning announcement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. On Wednesday, federal agents and municipal police raided 12 homes, one warehouse, one business and a church in relation to the counterfeit phone investigation. At a press conference in Boise, U.S. Attorney Bart Davis said the fake phones involved the multi-million-dollar counterfeit scheme were manufactured in Hong Kong, then repackaged and distributed from the Boise area. Investigators said the phones were sold on Amazon and eBay.“This was the four-year investigation,” Davis stated. Agents from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Postal Inspector’s Service Office, as well as officers from the Boise Police and Meridian Police Departments served search warrants on the properties Wednesday, packing out boxes presumably containing evidence. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says anyone who believes they may be a victim may visit the Department of Justice’s large case website for more information: www.justice.gov/largecases. One business is located on Bridger Street, near the intersection of Cloverdale Road and Chinden Blvd., the Eagle homes are on Pasa Tiempo Way, and the Meridian home authorities raided is on West Spruce Creek Drive.Neighbors tell us the residents of the two Eagle homes that were searched have lived in the neighborhood some twelve years, and have “kept pretty much to themselves.” According to the Ada County Assessor’s Office, the two homes are owned by Gennady and Pavel Babichenko, known by neighbors as “Henry” and “Paul.”According to federal court documents, those arrested in the counterfeit phone scheme now face over 30 federal charges.Pavel Babichenko (aka Paul Babichenko)Charged with: 2111

Staffers at Westview High School arrived for workWednesday morning to find the campus marred by offensive graffiti, includingswastikas.   San Diego police received a call about the vandalism at the TorreyHighlands secondary school shortly before 7 a.m., SDPD public-affairs OfficerBilly Hernandez said.   No suspects in the crime were immediately identified.   Tina Ziegler, principal of the Camino del Sur school, stated in amessage to parents that "campus security and custodians responded immediately, covering the (defaced) area to prevent students' exposure" to the graffiti.   "The actions of this person or group of people do not reflect thepride we take in our campus and the safe learning environment that WestviewHigh School and the Poway Unified School District strive to provide ourstudents," Ziegler said. "Westview High School continues to be a place whereall of our students are respected and are expected to respect one another." Kiyan Marashi is a Westview senior.  "I'm greatly disappointed; it's offensive to people from all walks of life, especially a school that's so diverse. I think it's horrible to see this happen." Poway Unified's Director of Communications, Christine Paik, told 10News, "Whoever did this intended to offend as many people as possible.  Genitalia drawn on there, sexual and crude language, profanity, 666, as well as a symbol of a swastika."  1472

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - A Solana Beach cafe is rebounding after a theft over the summer, new coronavirus restrictions and wintry weather.Back in August, seven of Homestead Cafe and Market's tables and chairs were stolen. Police found the culprit and got back most of their outdoor dining furniture. The entire time, the community has wrapped their arms around the mom and pop shop."People are still coming by wanting to bring stuff asking what we need," co-owner of the restaurant Marie Brawn said, thankfully."They wanted to make sure that we knew that they still want a place like this to be around after this whole mess," she said alluding to the constantly changing coronavirus guidelines for restaurants. She said many small businesses like them in the area have been shutting down."It's a bit of a roller coaster, it's been very humbling," co-owner Jamie Brawn said. The couple was ahead of the curve when the county announced San Diego was in the purple most restrictive tier this week. They already had all their dining outside. When they made that move, they were ahead of the forecast, thinking to add a waterproof custom made patio cover and heat lamps."Through the generosity of our neighbors, we were actually able to do it and get ready for winter coming," Marie said. She said a couple of loyal customers even came and sat under their new patio in the rain last weekend.Inside their cafe has been redesigned into an organic market, filled with produce, specialty cheeses, Italian sauces, beer, wine, breakfast items. They also have items for those with dietary restrictions and gifts for the holiday season. The market helps them with the overhead, keeping the business afloat. On top of it all, they're balancing distance learning with their two boys and charity work, feeding families in need in North County. "Food insecurity even before the pandemic was a huge thing on our minds and something that with the pandemic we want to keep going," Jamie said. They've donated 28,000 meals since April and hope to fund-raise through the end of the year to supply more families more food as the holidays grow closer. 2132
