SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego is one of the best places in the country for veterans to live, according to a new WalletHub report. According to the site, San Diego is the 15th best place in the nation for veterans to live in 2019. Out of 100 other U.S. cities, San Diego ranks 47th for employment, 2nd for quality of life and 35th for health. So where are the best places in the U.S. for veterans in 2019? According to WalletHub, Tampa, Austin, Orlando, Raleigh and Scottsdale all took top spots. Indianapolis, Memphis, Jersey City, Newark and Detroit all placed at the bottom of this year’s list. Long Beach and San Francisco are also two cities with some of the most homeless veterans per veteran population, according to the site. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria says the city's convention center shelter for the homeless will be funded through at least the first month of 2021.Gloria said in a release that he's directing staff to provide funding using money previously slated for shelter operations in November and December that wasn't spent due to cost-saving measures and other factors, as well as a state grant specifically for funding homelessness-related services."I am committed to protecting our homeless neighbors from COVID-19 while keeping a focus on connecting them to long-term housing," Gloria said. Since April, more than 11,200 coronavirus tests have been given at the shelter to residents and staff. The shelter has seen a total of 190 positive tests, including 170 residents and 20 volunteers or staff members, according to the city.Those residents who test positive are immediately moved from the shelter to an off-site hotel managed by the county for public health use. 2326

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are asking for the public’s help locating a man suspected of threatening a Target employee with a razor during a robbery.Police say the incident happened around 10 a.m. on March 25 at the Target on the 1200 block of Camino Del Rio North.According to police, a loss prevention officer noticed a man inside the store he recognized from previous encounters.Police say the man grabbed three memory cards and attempted to remove them from their cases.After removing one of the memory cards and placing it in his pocket, the man was confronted by the officer who followed him to the exit.The suspect then threatened the officer with a folding razor knife he removed from his waistband.The suspect is described as a six-foot tall 28-year-old white male wearing a tan colored long-sleeve dress shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes.Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2299. 951

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have made an arrest in the death of a 20-year-old in the Bay Terraces area last year.Police said 26-year-old John Orozco was arrested Wednesday for the murder of Joaquin Ruiz of San Diego.On July 12, 2019, Ruiz was found in a vehicle off the side of the road just before midnight in the 7000 block of Paradise Valley Rd. He was suffering from a bullet wound to his upper body.Police began first aid at the scene, but Ruiz died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.The investigation into Orozco is ongoing, and no other details surrounding his arrest or involvement in the murder were released.SDPD asked that anyone who may have information related to the case to call the department's Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego business legend Frank Fornaca died Wednesday at the age of 94.Fornaca's father started a family bakery in San Diego in 1912. More than 50 years later, the Fornacas went into the car business.The family still runs Frank Toyota, Subaru, and Hyundai. The dealerships are known for their catchy phrase, "Is that you, Frank?"Fornaca suffered from congestive heart failure. He was still able to attend his granddaughter's wedding just over a week ago.  493
