As part of his opening statement in an impeachment inquiry hearing, Ambassador Gordon Sondland testified that President Donald Trump's personal lawyer directed a quid pro quo that Ukraine announce an investigation into Joe Biden's son or not be invited to the White House."Mr. Giuliani demanded that Ukraine make a public statement announcing the investigations of the 2016 election, DNC server, and Burisma," Sondland said.Sondland also testified that Giuliani was "expressing the desires" of Trump, and that his staff was aware that Trump had placed great importance on the investigations. Sondland's testimony comes just weeks after he dramatically 664

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fa. — Weather conditions threatening to scrub the nation’s first astronaut launch in nine years are improving, NASA said Tuesday. The latest report from officials estimated the highly anticipated flight had a 60% chance of liftoff, up from 40% the day prior.“As of right now, we are go for launch,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said during a news conference. “The trend is in the right direction, and we are very, very excited.”The historic mission is a collaboration between NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX.Veteran astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley are set to take the Crew Dragon spacecraft on its first human-crewed and final test flight to the International Space Station. The US has been paying Russia to fly personnel to the ISS since the termination of its shuttle program in 2011.“We hoped to be flying people by 2014,” said Scott Altman, a former NASA astronaut. “It’s now 2020, and we’re only on the cusp, but we are here.”Altman said a successful flight could be a giant leap forward for the future of American space travel. He and others hoped the public/private partnership would help pave the way for the commercial sector to handle more routine missions soon. NASA could then be free to focus on shooting for the stars.“NASA looking to do the deep space exploration, get things set so we can go back to the moon,” Altman said. “Commercial crews then filling in the low-Earth orbit.”Success might also be a boon for the Sunshine State. Advocacy group Space Florida believed the mission would further encourage private investment in the Space Coast, bringing in more companies, jobs, and opportunities.“We’re looking at making Florida the primary port of entry for human and economic opportunity in the Solar System,” Dale Ketcham, Space Florida’s vice president of government and external affairs, said. “It’s roughly analogous to the Port of London in the British Empire.”At last check, liftoff was still set for 4:33 p.m. ET on Wednesday. The astronauts plan to dock with the ISS and remain there for an indeterminate period. Officials said Behnken and Hurley would likely return when weather permitted.Pending a successful final test, the first full crew launch of the Crew Dragon craft is slated for August of this year. This story was originally published by Forrest Saunders on 2331

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Thursday that 39 vaping-related deaths have now been reported. Those deaths were confirmed in 24 states and the District of Columbia: Alabama (1), California (3), Connecticut (1), Delaware (1), D.C. (1), Florida (1), Georgia (3), Illinois (3), Indiana (3), Kansas (2), Massachusetts (2), Michigan (1), Minnesota (3), Mississippi (1), Missouri (1), Montana (1), Nebraska (1), New Jersey (1), New York (1), Oregon (2), Pennsylvania (1), Tennessee (2), Texas (1), Utah (1), and Virginia (1).The median age of the deceased is 53 years and ranged from 17 to 75 years old, according to the CDC. As of Tuesday, the CDC says 2,051 confirmed and probable lung injury cases associated with the use of e-cigarette, or vaping, products were reported across all states except Alaska. The lung injury associated with the outbreak is being called EVALI. The CDC says all patients in the outbreak have reported a history with e-cigarette products. Officials say the latest findings suggest products containing THC, particularly those obtained off the street or from other informal sources, are linked to most of the cases and play a major role in the outbreak. “THC is present in most of the samples tested by FDA to date, and most patients report a history of using THC-containing products,” writes the CDC.At this time, the FDA and CDC have not identified the cause or causes of the lung injuries in these cases. “No one compound or ingredient has emerged as the cause of these illnesses to date; and it may be that there is more than one cause of this outbreak.”The CDC continues to recommend that consumers not use e-cigarette, or vaping, products that contain THC. People are also discouraged from buying any type of vaping products, particularly those containing THC, off the street. You should also not modify or add any substances to e-cigarettes that are not intended by the manufacturer. 1971

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Mother Nature has been all over the place the past few weeks in Oklahoma, but one family has been impacted by disaster twice in the same week. The Williams family has been forced to wait as floodwaters rise near the home they were given through a veterans program. Joshua Shorty Williams served in the U.S. Army. On May 22, Joshua and his wife, Jenny, and their three kids — Kayla, 15; Bryson, 14; and Aiden, 12 — evacuated their Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, home due to the flooding in their neighborhood. They went to stay at a relative's place in downtown Sapulpa and were slammed by the tornado on Sunday night. “Yes, we've had an eventful week or so, unfortunately,” Joshua Williams said. “We moved into our house in the Indian Springs Estate on January 7, 2019. When they issued the voluntary evacuation for our neighborhood on Wednesday, we left our home. We came to stay at my brother-in-law's building in downtown Sapulpa. We were hit by the tornado last night. Thankfully, everyone is safe and well.” The Williams family is not out of the woods yet. They spotted their house on a drone video posted online with the most recent footage of their neighborhood. They could see that the water is rising and slowly creeping up their driveway. The family’s plan is to stay at their brother-in-law's place in Sapulpa for now. With the pending storms and rising waters, the future of their family house is uncertain.“Yes, we are unfortunately playing the waiting game,” Joshua Williams said. “Hoping and praying the levels don't rise to the house. But all we can do is wait and see. Everything that's there can be replaced though. Just sucks as we were just awarded the house through the 1718
