Then he learned about Connect2Compete, a program through Cox Communications that gave families free internet to start followed by a low cost plan. "We've been able to enhance, and better be prepared for school and a different curriculum that they're requiring now."Cox Communications Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, Chanelle Hawken, said it's just one of the ways they continued to help students stay connected for the fall. "We've put a lot of resources time and energy to connect kids."Cox also partnered with David Harp's Foundation, a music school for low income and at-risk kids. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This Labor Day, the Little Italy community will celebrate their annual Stickball Tournament, honoring the East Coast past time made popular in several neighborhoods.The sport draws on the area's heritage that began decades ago.Since the 1920s, Little Italy has served as a ethnic business and residential hub. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Trump administration’s latest effort to keep asylum seekers out of America is being met with opposition. Attorney General William Bar directed immigration judges to deny bond hearings for asylum seekers arriving at the border. The ruling does not go into effect for another 3 months and Barr himself noted it will have a "significant impact" on the already overcrowded detention centers. “A person can be detained indefinitely," said immigration attorney Edward Orendain. "This is just another attempt by this administration to make things more difficult for those seeking asylum.” The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged overcrowding many of their detention centers along the border earlier this month and requested the 90-day delay after Barr’s ruling on Tuesday. “It’s only a call to build more detention centers,” said Benjamin Prado with American Friends Service Committee. “Those contracts go to a private prison corporations that make huge amount of profits on the detention of people, off the ‘warehousing’ of individuals.”Barr’s ruling is expected to be challenged in court. 10News has reached to Immigration and Customs Enforcement on how this would affect their centers in San Diego. 1234

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is warning San Diegans about a mysterious and possibly deadly counterfeit drug being traded on the streets. The department says they believe the pills have caused four overdose deaths in San Diego County over the last 36 hours. The deaths happened in Valley Center, Santee, Poway and Lakeside. “It’s being traded and sold on the streets with the promise of a painkiller high, but no one really knows what exactly is in the drug which makes it so dangerous,” the department said. Authorities say the pills are blue with one side marked by an "M" while the other side is stamped with a "30." The department says the pills are often called "M-30s" or "blues."While the department doesn't know exactly what's in the pills, investigators say these type of pills often contain fentanyl or carfentanil.Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
