BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- China's local governments should step up efforts to close 10 million kilowatts of outdated coal-fueled power station capacity this year, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said Friday.This year is crucial to completing the country's energy saving and emission reduction goals as set out in the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (from 2006 to 2010), Li said in a letter to a national work conference held in Beijing discussing the elimination of backward production capacity.Official figures show China's unit gross domestic product (GDP) energy consumption fell 14.38 percent during the first four years of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. But efficiency has to improve if the nation is to meet the 20 percent target set for the five-year period."This move is conducive to optimizing the country's power structure, enhancing energy saving and reducing pollution," Li said.

GOTEBORG, Sweden, March 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed a deal worth 1.8 billion U.S. dollars with Ford Motor Co. here Sunday to acquire the U.S. auto giant's Volvo car unit.Under the definitive stock purchase deal, Geely will own 100 percent of Volvo Cars and its related assets.The agreement was inked by Li Shufu, founder and chairman of Geely, and Lewis Booth, chief financial officer of Ford, at a ceremony at the headquarters of Volvo in Goteborg, the second largest city of Sweden. Geely Chairman Li Shufu attends a press conference after the signing ceremony in Goteborg of Sweden, March 28, 2010. HARARE, May 31 (Xinhua) – The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote political exchanges and cooperation between the two parties.This was disclosed by Wang Gang, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, who is leading a high-powered delegation to Zimbabwe.Speaking during a meeting with Zimbabwean Vice President Joice Mujuru and senior Zanu-PF officials on Monday, Wang said the agreement will enable the two parties to consolidate relations and work together in exploring new ways to enhance ties."Guided by this memorandum of understanding for the next five years, our party-to-party relations will have a more in-depth development," Wang said, adding the MOU will see the two parties increasing high level exchange visits and sharing experiences."We very much cherish the friendship between Zimbabwe and China.
