SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A California Assemblymember Thursday requested a state audit to review how that City and County of San Diego responded to a recent hepatitis A outbreak.In a letter to the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, Assemblymember Todd Gloria asks that the committee “determine whether both the County and City identified, contained, and treated the recent Hepatitis A virus (HAV) outbreak in accordance with statutory requirements and recommended procedures.”“We owe it to the 20 people who died and the more than 500 who contracted Hepatitis A to learn exactly what went wrong and what could have been done better,” said Assemblymember Todd Gloria. “It is my hope this audit will help us better understand how the City and County managed the Hepatitis A outbreak and ultimately make certain our region is sufficiently prepared to handle any future public health crisis that may arise.”According to the letter, the hepatitis A outbreak started in March of 2017. SAN DIEGO, CA (KGTV) The two-year-old twin girls who were in a truck that sped off of Sunset Cliffs Saturday are recovering.That’s according to a family friend who started a GoFundMe campaign to help the twins’ mother with any expenses related to the crash.“She’s a great mother, she’s sticking strong through all of this, the girls are doing good,” said family friend Adrianna Lopez. “Money should be the last thing she needs to worry about, it’s just about keeping herself sane through all of this, her kids their health, mental, physical, everything.”Lopez and a family member tell 10News the girls are now stable. She said the twins just turned two years old in May.On Saturday, the toddlers were riding in a truck that San Diego Police say was driven by their father.Officers were warned to be on the lookout for a suicidal man threatening to drive off of the Coronado Bridge.Cellphone GPS data located the father, now identified as 47-year-old Robert Brians, at Sunset Cliffs.SDPD K9 Officer Jonathan Wiese was close by and jumped into action after the truck went over the cliffside.He and other first responders were able to save the twins and Brians.“The action that the first responders did, we’re just forever grateful, forever grateful,” said Lopez.Brians was arrested for two counts of attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, one count of burglary, and two counts of child cruelty.The San Diego District Attorney’s office said is has until Wednesday to make a filing decision. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- It was a battle over workers rights at a rally downtown Thursday. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez directly addressing the group against her proposed Assembly Bill. Assembly Bill 5 would affect any independent contractor including Uber and Lyft drivers, yoga teachers even hairdressers. The group at Thursday’s rally was made up mostly of adult entertainers. “I’ve been doing fine I like the freedom to educate myself and if someone’s going to stop me from that I want to do something about that and voice my opinion," one woman told 10News. The bill would make many independent contractors full time employees, forcing employers to provide overtime, health care and sick leave. Assemblywoman Gonzalez rebutted the group today. "There’s nothing in the law that says an employee has to work from 9 to 6. Any employer can tell you to work two hours, one hour, any hours you choose. There’s nothing in the law that says an employer can’t be flexible.”Some say they don’t want it because they prefer the flexibility and freedom to decide hours that comes with independent contracting. 1104

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Members of San Diego's Islamic community stood up Thursday in support of three women who were attacked in Little Italy.The women were wearing hijabs and walking down Columbia Street near Beech Sunday afternoon when a man approached from the other direction. Witnesses told 10News 50-year-old Kyle Allen lunged his shoulder into one of them.Allen was later arrested on suspicion of battery, making criminal threats, and weapon charges.
