If we're sick, we don't think twice about seeing a doctor. Health experts say we need to start looking at obesity the same way. One woman has turned her life around. And as she's lost weight, she's gained so much more."We're grazers," Marcie Weiler recalls. "I was brought up just (hands to mouth motion) mindlessly. Totally mindlessly just pop it in."That's how Weiler grew up thinking about food. And after a few serious injuries?"My coping mechanism was soda pop and food of course," Weiler says.At her heaviest, she weighed 300 pounds."I just thought, 'Oh my God, I'm going to keep getting bigger,'" Weiler saysShe's not alone. Obesity rates in the United States are at all time high. 40 percent of all Americans are considered obese and 20 percent morbidly obese."It affects cardiovascular health," says Dr. John Weaver, a general and bariatric surgeon with Presbyterian / St. Luke's Medical Center. "It affects you know pulmonary health and diabetes it affects joint pain and problems."Dr. Weaver says the effects can be serious, and potentially deadly. A new study found improvements in mortality rates are slowing, obesity is the main cause, and many people look the other way."Only 20 to 30 percent of people who are obese had even talked to their doctor about their obesity," Dr. Weaver says. "And the problems that go along with being obese."Dr. Weaver says it is possible to be overweight and healthy, but your body mass index can let you know for sure. And once you've figured that out, beating obesity isn't just about cutting calories and working out. There's a new understanding that the biggest challenge, is revamping your lifestyle."It's an entire body change," Dr. Weaver says. "It's not just an eating habit it's changing your eating habits but it's changing how you perceive food. And everything that goes along with food."That's what Weiler has done. Along with bariatric surgery, she has lost more than 100 pounds. If you've ever had a surgical procedure, you know it can often mean a high hospital bill. Now, more people are turning to surgery centers for a lower cost.Sandi Bowen is one of those people.Something as simple as picking out a shirt is more challenging for Bowen than she ever thought it'd be. On Easter, she found a lump in her breast. Doctors told her it was cancer."It was very very very confusing," Bowen says. "It still is. It brings tears to my eyes, because I don't understand how I got it."Instead of a lumpectomy, she decided to remove her entire breast. And instead of going to a hospital for breast reconstruction, Bowen opted for the Kaiser Permanente Ambulatory Surgery Center, where she got the surgery. In less than 24 hours, she was back home recovering.  "I felt very special," Bowen says. "They were there every time I moved. They came in and talked to me, even goofed around with me."Dr. Mike Sawyer, the director at the center, says they've worked hard to address concerns regarding patient care."If it's a patient that just needs physicians to kind of come to the bedside, and maybe we have to have some kind of intervention, we're able to do that because are here and we are present," Dr. Sawyer says. "On site, as they say. If it's really something that requires a higher level of care, that again allows us to do a pretty quick transfer process over to one of our partner hospitals."Compared with hospitals, Kaiser Permanente says its patients are seeing an average cost savings of 30 percent on their procedures. It can be anything from simple orthopedic procedure to joint procedures.However, Dr. Sawyer says there are important questions you need to ask before determining if a surgery center is the best option for you."Does your physician feel comfortable with this operation there?" Dr. Sawyer says. "Have you and your physician discussed all the ramifications of that procedure? And then what sort of plans does that ambulatory surgery center have if you were required a higher level of care?" 2037

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday released a new proposal that includes .2 trillion in spending, and sends direct payment of ,200 to most Americans.The proposal still costs more than the White House has said it would like, but is down from the .4 trillion stimulus plan House Democrats passed back in May.In addition to another set of ,200 direct payments to millions of Americans, House Democrats propose using 5 million for education, more funding for the struggling airline industry, and 6 million for local governments. The set of proposals would also include a 0 per week unemployment supplement, which expired at the end of July.“This .2 trillion Heroes Act provides the absolutely needed resources to protect lives, livelihoods and the life of our democracy over the coming months,” Pelosi said in a letter to House Democrats. “It includes new funding needed to avert catastrophe for schools, small businesses, restaurants, performance spaces, airline workers and others.”Last week, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin confirmed that he and Pelosi agreed to relaunch negotiations on a stimulus plan.Earlier this month, Senate Republicans attempted to pass a “slimmed down” stimulus bill with a cost of 0 billion. In an interview this week, Donald Trump Jr. said he is waiting for “due process” in the case against a teenager accused of shooting three demonstrators in Kenosha, Wisconsin, killing two, and seemed to refer to being at the protests and the shootings as “stupid things.”The president’s son was talking to ExtraTV about his book, “Liberal Privilege: Joe Biden and the Democrats Defense of the Indefensible.”The show’s host, Rachel Lindsay, asked Trump about the Black Lives Matter movement, as racial tensions and violence at some demonstrations are brought up at President Trump and Former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign events.After initial questions about what Trump Jr. thought of the movement, Lindsay asked, “The phrase 'Black Lives Matter…' do you understand what that means and what the fight is for it?"“Of course. And I agree with it,” Trump Jr. said, “It’s a very good marketing message, it's a great catchphrase, but that doesn't back up a lot of the political ideology behind it.”Lindsay then asks about his reaction to events in Kenosha.
