PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. – The smiling Black chef that’s been on Cream of Wheat packaging for decades is being removed.In a statement obtained by USA Today and The New York Times, B&G Foods said that research indicates the image of the Black man may be based on an actual Chicago chef named Frank White, but it’s being removed because “it reminds some consumers of earlier depictions they find offensive.”The removal comes after the company initiated a review of the packaging in June. At that time, the business wrote that it’s committed to evaluating its packaging and would take steps to ensure it does not inadvertently contribute to racism."B&G Foods unequivocally stands against prejudice and injustice of any kind," wrote the company.It’s not immediately clear when customers can expect the Cream of Wheat packaging to be changed.The Times reports that the character on the box was once named “Rastus,” a pejorative term for Black men, and that he was once depicted as a barely literate cook who didn’t know what vitamins were.Cream of Wheat is the latest of several products which are being redesigned to remove racially insensitive imagery.Earlier this month, it was announced that Uncle Ben’s rice products would be renamed Ben’s Original and the image of Uncle Ben would be removed. In June, Quaker Oats said it would rename and rebrand Aunt Jemima pancake syrup. They like prohibition ending,” said Brendan Johnson, a former U.S. Attorney for the district of South Dakota.In South Dakota, the vote to legalize marijuana on Nov. 3 passed with 54.2 percent approval, while 62 percent voted to re-elect Donald Trump as president; a once-partisan discrepancy that could also be seen in Montana, where 56.9 percent of the electorate voted for Trump and 57.8 voted for legalization.“Part of our state’s libertarian streak, which leads people to believe that the government doesn’t have a role to play in this, and, frankly, prohibition carried the day along with economic costs of building larger and larger prisons across the state,” said Johnson.According to Johnson, 10 percent of South Dakota’s arrests last year were for marijuana possession, oftentimes only a few grams. The CDC said on Thursday that an estimated 27,000 people were sickened, and eight died, from swimming-related diseases from 2000 to 2014 in hotel pools and hot tubs. According to CDC figures, 1 out of 3 swimming-related disease outbreaks originated from hotels. The CDC says that Cryptosporidium (also known as “Crypto”), Pseudomonas, and Legionella caused most of the outbreaks in swimming venues. Of the 27,000 people sickened, the majority had Crypto, which is a parasite tough enough to survive even in properly maintained pools.“Swallowing just a mouthful of water with Crypto in it can make otherwise healthy kids and adults sick for weeks with watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting,” said Michele Hlavsa, R.N., M.P.H., chief of CDC’s Healthy Swimming Program. “Chlorine cannot kill Crypto quickly. We need to keep it out of the water in the first place. Don’t go into the water, and don’t let your kids go into the water, if sick with diarrhea.”The CDC said if a pool, hot tub, or water playground is not cleaned properly, bacteria can grow and form a slime called biofilm on wet surfaces. Legionella and Pseudomonas can live in this biofilm. The CDC has offered the following tips to prevent getting sick while swimming:  1401

Police in Germantown, Wisconsin are looking for a bathroom creeper who took pictures of a woman while she was using the restroom. It happened Monday afternoon at the McDonald’s on Mequon Road. “While she was in the stall she saw two arms holding some sort of recording device,” Police Chief Peter Hoell said. That’s when the startled woman ran out of the bathroom after the suspect. The restaurant’s manager saw the commotion and ran out of the building behind the woman, they both saw the suspect get into an old RV and take off. “The vehicle should stick out,” said Hoell. Surveillance cameras captured images of the man and his getaway vehicle. Because the man was driving an RV, the chief said he believes he may be from out of town. Hoell hopes that social media will help in the investigation. “Depending on the interest, that post might go to multiple states, we may have an opportunity to identify this person even if he is not from Wisconsin,” said Hoell. 1002
