Thursday was supposed to mark the second of three presidential debates between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.Instead, Trump and Biden will hold town hall forums on opposite networks in a hope to sway voters to the polls by November 3. The town hall forums will air Thursday evening at 8 p.m.How we got hereIn the two weeks since the last debate, Trump tested positive for the coronavirus as dozens of others who had contact with Trump around the time of the debate also tested positive for the virus. Also, revelations surfaced that Trump’s travel party did not follow the debate’s coronavirus guidelines at the Sept. 30 meeting in Cleveland. As a result, the Commission on President Debates announced last week the debate scheduled for Oct. 15 would be held virtually. Wanting no part of a virtual debate, Trump immediately retracted his participation in the debate, and instead his campaign said it would hold a rally.Meanwhile, Biden said he’d opt to hold a televised town hall forum on Thursday. On Wednesday, NBC News announced that Trump had agreed to participate in a town hall at the same time.When/where to watchBiden’s town hall will begin at 8 p.m. ET live in all time zones. The town hall will air live on ABC, ABC News Live on streaming platforms, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos will moderate.Trump’s town hall will also begin at 8 p.m. ET live in all time zones. The town hall will air live on NBC, MSNBC and CNBC, stream on NBC News NOW and be available in Spanish on Telemundo’s digital platforms. NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie will moderate.Biden’s town hall is slated to last 90 minutes, while Trump’s will go 60 minutes.NBC News took criticism from some on social media for opting to hold the town hall at the same time as Biden’s event. The concurrent town halls will leave swing viewers having to pick one of the candidates to watch. Stephanopoulos hosted a town hall with Trump and voters last month, while Biden did a town hall with NBC News’ Lester Holt a week ago.FormatUnlike debates, town hall forum responses have no time limit, which allows for deeper discussions on topics. Based on recent town hall forums, the coronavirus and the economic fallout will likely be key topics. Also of note is that Trump has largely avoided taking questions from reporters since being diagnosed with the coronavirus. It would not be surprising to see direct questions posed to Trump on holding large events without masks amid a pandemic. 2486

TIJUANA, Mexico (AP) — Hundreds of Tijuana residents have congregated around a monument in an affluent section of the city south of California to protest the thousands of Central American migrants who have arrived there via caravan in hopes of a new life in the U.S.The locals waved Mexican flags, sang the Mexican national anthem and chanted "Out! Out!" on Sunday in front of a statue of the Aztec ruler Cuauhtemoc, 1 mile from the U.S. border. They accused the migrants of being messy, ungrateful and a danger to Tijuana.RELATED: CBP commissioner nearly clobbered with rock while touring Friendship Park borderThey also complained about how the caravan forced its way into Mexico, calling it an "invasion." And they voiced worries that their taxes might be spent to care for the group as they wait possibly months to apply for U.S. asylum.RELATED: Migrants won't see armed US soldiers on border 918
Thursday marks one year since special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 US election. Mueller took over an investigation that was first opened by since-fired FBI Director James Comey in July 2016, during the campaign. The far-reaching investigation continues -- witnesses are still being interviewed, and trials are scheduled for later this year. As the proceedings have dragged on, the White House has adopted an increasingly hostile tone toward the investigation, which President Donald Trump has repeatedly called a "witch hunt" and a "hoax."Trump tweeted Thursday about his feelings toward the investigation. 671
Those who grew up on "Ren & Stimpy" may not have realized that they were watching the animated show that would change all the rules.Subversive, clever, and often outright demented, the chaotic tale of a dysfunctional friendship between a nerve-wracked Chihuahua and a sweet, dopey Manx cat connected with children and adults alike, helping lift Nickelodeon to pop culture prominence in the 1990s.Driven by a renegade spirit, the series slipped in edgy humor underneath executives' noses, made bold philosophical points, and disturbing psychological observations. A towering achievement that has only grown in stature over the decades since it aired, the characters continue to retain a cult following.Taking a cue from the ironic catchphrase/refrain "Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story" takes an incisive look at the show and proves that the way the sausage was made was often brutal. While directors Ron Cicero and Kimo Easterwood have a clear respect for the show's achievements and influence, they take an equally intense focus on exploring the dark underbelly of the facade.Through interviews with the likes of Bob Camp, Vincent Waller, Billy West, Chris Reccardi, Jim Gomez, Vanessa Coffey about the quirks, obsessions, and dark tendencies of series creator John Kricfalusi.Workers complained about unreasonable and unstable leadership from Kricfalusi, who had a tendency for self-destruction that plagued him at every stage of his career. A visionary who failed to yield to the influence of others as he remained devoted to his creative vision, he often drove away those who he relied on. He also exploited his fame to indulge in romance and power fantasies with young fans.Kricfalusi opens up in a shockingly candid manner, apologizing for some of his decisions while doubling down on others. What emerges is a complete, complex portrait of a troubled man who started from nothing, had it all and then lost just about everything. The series aired from 1991 to 1995 on Nickelodeon, then came back in a brief, adult-themed incarnation in 2003. Kricfalusi has now lost most of his creative relevance, and apparently, also his drive. While "Ren & Stimpy" superfans will get the most out of the documentary, it also makes for a fascinating ride for anyone with a passing interest in the evolving form of animation. There was little happiness or joy that went into the making of the masterpiece.RATING: 3.5 stars out of 4.Phil Villarreal TwitterPhil Villarreal FacebookPhil Villarreal Amazon Author PagePhil Villarreal Rotten Tomatoes This story was originally reported by Phil Villarreal at KGUN. 2628
