EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old is battling life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in the East County.The teenager was hit by the vehicle at about 8 p.m. Monday near the intersection of East Washington Avenue and Waterloo Ave., El Cajon police said.Police arrived to find the teenager unconscious in the road and transported him to a nearby hospital. The identification of the victim is being withheld, police said.Police added that the teen was with three other male teenagers, who had been running south across East Washington Ave. outside of a crosswalk when the collision occurred. The driver of the Toyota Rav4 that struck the victim remained at the scene and has been cooperating with authorities. Police said they don't believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.Witnesses told 10News the intersection can be dangerous for pedestrians in the area. 921

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit confirmed on his Facebook page on Monday that he was rescued as Hurricane Maria hit his small island nation.  Hurricane Maria made landfall just before 10 p.m. ET on the island of Dominica with top winds of 160 MPH. Skerrit's roof was one of many that were ripped off as Maria came on shore. "My roof is gone. I am at the complete mercy of the hurricane. House is flooding," Skerrit said just before being rescued. Hurricane Maria is the second Category 5 hurricane to strike the Caribbean in the last two weeks. Hurricane Maria is following a similar path as Hurricane Irma, which devastated parts of the Caribbean before coming on shore in Florida on Sept. 10.Local radio reports said that parts of Dominica are flooded, and there has been roof failure at a local hospital. Dominica has a total population of 73,000 residents.  934

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A crash sent a minivan into the side of a building in El Cajon Wednesday evening. According to a witness, the crash happened near the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Orange Avenue around 5 p.m. The witness told 10News that the white van went into the side of a building and through a garage. Photos of the building show the vehicle lodged into a wall. At this time it’s unknown if anyone was injured in the crash. 452

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top expert on infectious diseases, said Tuesday that he believes that it's "unlikely" that a viable COVID-19 vaccine will be available before the Nov. 3 general election.Fauci's comments contradict those of President Donald Trump, who implied Monday that a vaccine could be ready by October.During a health forum with Research!America, Fauci said that while it's not impossible for a vaccine to be safely granted Emergency Use Authorization within the next two months, he doesn't think one will be made available until the end of the year.Fauci noted that there are three vaccine candidates currently in the midst of the final phase of testing.
