TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Tallahassee Police Department announced Tuesday the outcome of a "large-scale" human trafficking investigation that resulted in 178 people being arrested.The department recently concluded a two-year-long operation, called "Operation Stolen Innocence," involving human trafficking and child sex trafficking right within the Capital City community.TPD Chief Revell said that it started with an investigation after a 13-year-old child’s image was seen on a prostitution website. Investigators with TPD’s Special Victims Unit set up an operation to rescue the child to ensure her safety. The American Automobile Association (AAA) expects at least 34 million less people will travel this holiday season than last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Public health concerns and travel guidance are influencing decisions not to travel during a time when people often take vacations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging Americans not to go anywhere for the holidays this year, warning that it could increase your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.Still, AAA projects as many as 84.5 million Americans may travel from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, a decline of at least 29%.As for methods of travel, AAA says most Americans who do go somewhere in the next few weeks will do so by car, with road trips accounting for 96% of holiday travel. Up to 81 million Americans will travel by car, a decline of at least 25% compared to last year, according to AAA.As has been the trend this year, far less people will fly this holiday season. AAA says as many as 2.9 million travelers are expected to book flights for the holidays, a decline of nearly 60% from 2019.For those who do choose to travel despite the risks, it’s important to take steps that can help keep yourself and others safe.AAA says to plan ahead by checking with state and local officials along your route and at your destination to learn about local guidance and any restrictions in place. That includes what’s expected of you when you return home. Many places require COVID-19 testing prior to and after travel.The CDC recommends taking a COVID-19 test one to three days before travel and another three to five days after travel, in addition to reducing nonessential activities for seven days after traveling.When packing, make sure you include face masks, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer and a thermometer. But as doors open there is a buzz in the air over the possibility of stricter gun laws.In response to the Parkland school shooting, Florida Gov. Rick Scott says no to bump stocks, no guns for the mentally ill and yes to raising the age you can buy legally buy one.You won’t find an AR-15 ban or extended background checks in Scott's plan. But in a break from the National Rifle Association, of which Scott is a member, he does not want to arm teachers.At the gun show, Scripps station WFTS in Tampa found a split in support from his own constituents.“Change needs to happen and I don’t see why not try something," said Jason Walker said, long-time gun owner and an Air Force member.When it comes to Scott's plan, Walker said he supports it overall.Eric Oyola on the other hand said he does not. He is the owner of Class 3 Outbreak, a gun manufacturer."I think the laws that we have in place right now are good enough to prevent any crime," said Oyola. “They’re just taking the rights from the law abiding citizens for people that are going to do it anyways.”Oyola is talking about the bump stock ban. As an AR-15 dealer, he especially rebuffs any plans that would target these types of guns. No worries for him under Scott’s proposal. The governor also rejects banning them.Scott does, however, want to raise the age you can buy from 18 to 21-years-old.“If you can fight for your country, come home and not be able to have an AR-15 or even buy a rifle, I think it’s not fair," Oyola said.“I don’t believe you should be able to buy a long gun at age 18," said Walker.Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) said believes without an AR-15 ban the proposal does not have any teeth.“It’s a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t get at the core problem of how you are going to stop a person with an assault weapon of walking into a crowded place," Sen. Nelson said.What about Scott’s plan to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill?“It’s going to be a hard thing to do because people at any time can flip out whether they are under the radar or not," said Walker.Neither Walker nor Oyola are convinced it will work. What about the so-called gun show loophole where private sellers aren’t required to conduct a background check?“Absolutely, everybody should have a background check," said Walker.“I’m a licensed dealer," said Oyola, "If you can’t pass a gun background check, you shouldn’t have a gun.”A consensus? Still, background checks aren’t in Scott’s plan either. Thanks, OPEC.Prices at the pump are likely to be 14% higher than last summer — an average of .74 per gallon, the US government estimated on Tuesday.The price of oil has climbed because of efforts by OPEC and Russia. Brent crude, the global benchmark, surged 3.5% on Tuesday to .04 a barrel, the highest since late 2014. That's already above the EIA forecast of for this summer, suggesting gas prices could go even higher. Brent crude averaged just last summer.Summer driving season, which the EIA considers April through September, is historically when demand peaks for gasoline as Americans go on vacation. The EIA expects highway travel to increase 1.3% over last summer.Although gas is well below the a gallon prices of 2008, it has risen because of the recovery in the oil markets. The average gallon of gasoline fetched .66 on Tuesday, according to AAA. That's up from .39 last year, just as summer driving season was beginning.Of course, those are just national averages. West Coast states are grappling with more pain at the pump.Drivers in California, Oregon, Nevada, Washington State, Hawaii and Alaska already pay more than per gallon, according to AAA. California's average gas price has jumped to .52, compared with .99 a year ago.After crashing to just a barrel in early 2016, crude oil has more than doubled in price. Supply in the United States is very strong. Production of crude recently hit record high because of the shale oil boom.But foreign oil supply is down, largely because of OPEC's efforts to boost prices by curbing production. Saudi Arabia-led OPEC and Russia reached an agreement in late 2016 to pump less oil. OPEC and its allies agreed last November to extend the cuts through the end of 2018.The production cuts are designed to reduce the global oil glut — and they appear to be working, judging by the recovery in prices and decline in stockpiles.Saudi Arabia decided last year to slash shipments of oil to the United States, the market watched most closely by oil traders.
