Vlad Vanchanka lost his pet of nearly 10 years earlier this month. His cat was relaxing on a patio chair around 6 a.m.A coyote approached the cat in the backyard. Video shows the cat trying to scare it away, but another coyote entered the yard and grabbed the cat."We saw the coyotes pretty much attack and kill it," Vanchanka said.Vanchanka said the cat would only go outside when the weather was nice but mostly stayed indoors. He checked security cameras when the cat did not return."It was a good animal. I never had a problem and usually it was indoors. It liked to go outside just to walk around," he said.Vanchanka located his cat's remains not far from his home.Another Florida homeowner, Mark Wigley, lost his cat to a coyote attack. His cat, Tippy, went outside in August and never returned home."It was devastating. He was definitely part of the family and when he did stay in at night, he liked to sleep on my chest," Wigley said.Wigley located his cat's remains in a neighbor's backyard."They're predators and they're doing what they're born to do. I blame myself," Wigley said.Florida wildlife officials warn coyotes that do prey on domestic cats and small dogs. Most coyote attacks on pets happen either at night, in the early evenings or early mornings.According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), coyotes rarely pose a threat to people, especially adults. They can be curious and also timid and generally run away if challenged.FWC says coyotes will typically leave the area when humans make loud noises and act aggressively. Humans may need to continue hazing efforts until the coyote is effectively deterred and leaves the area for good. This story was originally published by Julie Salomone on 1742

What this will do is cause fewer and fewer people to teach in Kentucky, and in our case they'll go to Ohio or take up another profession, Democrat Rep. Dennis Keene said. "So we will have a harder time recruiting teachers to teach in our classrooms."Kentucky police officers and firefighters also stand to lose some benefits under the bill, according to Keene.Kentucky's pension system is among the worst-funded in the country, according to the Associated Press. They reported that the state is at least billion short of the money it needs to pay retirement benefits over the next 30 years.Proponents of the bill, like Republican Sen. Wil Schroder, said it's necessary for Kentucky's long term financial success."A lot of people realized that something had to be done," he said. "Past General Assemblies failed to take action at all, and the problem only got worse."Teachers have been vocal opponents to the bill, already rallying in Frankfort several times and causing it to be delayed previously. Several Northern Kentucky schools closed Friday due to teacher absences in the wake of the bill's passage. The following schools were closed Friday due to excessive staff absences: 1182

US allies have rallied behind President Donald Trump's warning that Syria would pay a "big price" if it is found to have carried out a chemical attack on the rebel-held town of Douma. France on Tuesday became the latest US ally to warn of action if Syria "crossed a red line" in Saturday's suspected chemical attack. According to activist groups, helicopters dropped barrel bombs filled with toxic gas on the town situated on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, killing dozens of civilians and wounding scores more. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to discuss the situation with Trump in the next 48 hours, government spokesman Benjamin Griveax told Europe 1 radio Tuesday. France has previously warned it would respond with strikes on Syrian government forces, if evidence of chemical attacks was found. British Prime Minister Theresa May, who has called the alleged attack "barbaric," is also set to discuss the situation with Trump on Monday, a Downing Street spokesperson told CNN.US, Russia exchange war of words 1042
