Best Buy informed its employees on Wednesday of plans to close all 250 of its mobile standalone stores in the United States by the end of May, a company spokesperson confirmed. The stores are predominately located within malls and are much smaller than Best Buy's big box stores. The mobile standalone shops are mostly used for the sale of cellphones and accessories. These locations do not sell some of Best Buy's bigger ticket items such as televisions, computers and appliances. The standalone stores are only responsible for 1 percent of Best Buy's overall revenue.Although thousands of employees will be affected by Wednesday's announcement, the company said the goal is to transfer employees currently working in standalone stores into Best Buy's big box locations. Best Buy said that 85 percent of its standalone stores are within 3 miles of a big box store. "Employees will have three months to work with internal recruiters, and field and store leaders across the country are rallying to help transition employees to big box stores and open in-home advisor roles," Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly wrote in a letter to employees, and shared with Scripps. "For those who leave the company after May 31, we will give them severance and assist them in finding roles outside Best Buy."Despite Best Buy closing its mall locations, the big box stores will continue selling cellphones and accessories. "We feel good about the opportunity to retain customers and transition them to another one of our sales channels. Bill Lee, a businessman from Franklin, has won the Republican primary for Tennessee Governor.Lee defeated three other GOP front-runners in a crowded primary field for the nomination, including Rep. Diane Black. Black had the endorsement of Vice President Mike Pence and was widely seen as President Trump's first choice for the nominee.Lee will face former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean in the general election in November. Brittany and Corey Oswell were flying home from their Hawaiian honeymoon in 2016 when Brittany became dizzy and fainted.She came to soon after, but when she later collapsed in the plane's lavatory, a doctor on board who'd been helping her told the flight crew they needed to land quickly, to get her the proper medical treatment.American Airlines Flight 102 was about an hour and a half from Dallas-Fort Worth, its destination. Despite the doctor's warning, the crew stayed the course while the doctor and flight attendants tried to treat Brittany, who was 25 years old at the time. She was taken to a hospital immediately upon landing, but died three days later.Now her family is suing the airline for wrongful death.Brad Cranshaw, the attorney for Brittany's husband and her parents, told CNN Friday the family's main objective isn't winning a financial settlement.They want the airline to re-examine its policy and procedures so this won't happen to anyone else, he said."The family wants something (they) can't have, and that's Brittany back," Cranshaw said. "But we are interested in how American intends to speak to the issues that lead to the circumstance that took Brittany's life and the pilots' decision making."An American Airlines representative said the company was "deeply saddened by this event and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Mrs. Oswell's loved ones."We take the safety of our passengers very seriously and we are looking into the details of the complaint," the airline said.  1525

Behind every stitch and each piece of fabric on the dolls put on display in Washington D.C., there’s a real face and a real story.Activist Marta Perez-Garcia is the creator of the display, and she hopes it will open the public’s eyes to the realities surrounding domestic violence.“I think, because I have too many people around me and I really saw it for so long, I needed to do something about it,” Perez-Garcia says.Perez-Garcia grew up in Puerto Rico and says she regularly witnessed women being abused. She says after moving to the mainland U.S., those stories didn’t stop."It's something that is in the media, that you see that is very close to home,” she says."One in 3 women are survivors of domestic violence and or sexual assault,” says Bakht Arif, who works with abuse survivors. “And that is a lot of people.Arif works with abuse survivors for a non-profit project in Washington D.C. She believes the doll display is one way to grab people's attention but says the conversation should go far beyond this.“Policy is important; legislation is important,” Arif says. “And we will be cheering and protesting for it and cheering for anyone who supports it and brings light to the issue.”The exhibit at the Franklin Reeves building in Washington D.C. was on display throughout the month of October to promote awareness.  But Perez-Garcia says the real voices for change will come from voters in November. "As society, we have to do something about this issue,” she says. “So, if it's to really take people in power to really make the right decisions against domestic violence, of course we have to do that.” 1631
