Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey knows the tech world has a problem. He's asking big questions like "How do we earn peoples' trust?""We realize that more and more people have fear of companies like ours," Dorsey said in an in-depth interview with CNN. He cited the "perceived power that companies like ours have over how they live and even think every single day."The following day, President Trump proved his point."Social Media is totally discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices. We are not. Period," Dorsey said Friday. "We do not look at content with regards to political viewpoint or ideology. Twitter rolled out a 280 character limit for most of its users Tuesday, and, predictably, lots of people are unhappy.That doubles the original 140 character limit that Twitter has maintained since it launched in 2006.Twitter began testing longer tweets in late September, and found that once the novelty of tweeting longer wore off, most people in the test group didn't use all of the available characters. According to the company, only 5% of tweets sent by people in the 280-character test group were longer than 140 characters, and just 2% were over 190 characters.Many users complained about the initial tests. Now that just about everyone's got 280 characters to work with, more people say they're frustrated or confused by the decision. Others are using new characters to make jokes. Other people were curious about how the new parameters will change the way people interact on the platform.The big question on everyone's mind is how President Donald Trump, an avid Twitter user, will use the expanded space. The president tweeted two messages Tuesday that went beyond the old 140 character limit.But another Trump doesn't appear to like the change. I love doing that one-on-one,” he said.Walker runs KC PRO Headshots out of a studio in the West Bottoms neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri.Wednesday may be one of the busiest days in his studio’s history. He hopes to take headshots of 50 different people in one day and he’s doing it all for free.Walker and a photographer in Olathe, Kansas, are part of the 10,000 Headshots Project. Hundreds of photographers across the United States are donating their time Wednesday in order to take headshots of 10,000 people who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and are looking for a new one.“It’s good to know that I’m doing something that made a real difference in a person’s life,” Walker said.The work-based social media site LinkedIn said profiles with professional headshots get 14 times the number of views compared to profiles without a picture.Walker said a good headshot is helpful in any job application.As a people person, he knows people are struggling because of the coronavirus. It's taking people four to six weeks to get see a vet in some cases.That has pet owners turning to pet emergency rooms to get care faster, but now those ERs are overwhelmed as well.It's a trend we're seeing nationwide.“Come in at 10 o’clock, there's eight or 10 cars out in the parking lot, because they can't get into see their veterinarian,” said Dr. Pat Kennedy Arrington, owner of Jefferson Animal Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. “Really is a perfect storm of activity right now of difficulty. Normally, we slow down in August and we haven't slowed down.While summer is typically a busy time for animal hospitals, Arrington says she’s seeing a lot of people she’s never seen before.DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon, is seeing this demand as well. In July, their growth was up nearly 30% over the same time last year. In august it was still up 12%.People are having to wait two to six hours with their pets, even up to 10 hours in some cases.“The restriction for protocols of letting people in the building and staying outside and parking outside and having to do a lot of conversations over the phone, everything just takes longer to do,” said Ron Morgan, President and CEO of DoveLewis. “And that's in general practice too.”“Most people are very gracious and appreciative that we're here and mad at their vet for not seeing them in some cases,” said Arrington. “It's unlike anything we've ever seen before.”The number of people who have gotten pets during the pandemic is part of what is making them busier too. Also, with people at home more, they're noticing more potential issues with their pets.Cost is something you need to be aware of. ER exam fees are typically a little higher than a regular vet visit.Some hospitals offer financial assistance or care credit may be an option for you.
