Hundreds clasped hands and prayed during a vigil for Raniya Wright, a fifth-grader who died this week after a fight at her elementary school.Residents of Walterboro, South Carolina, about an hour's drive west of Charleston, laid pink stuffed animals at the entrance of Forest Hills Elementary School on Thursday.Raniya's grandfather, Ernie Wright, spoke to CNN and described her as a young girl who would not be involved in violence."I just want to say one thing: that my granddaughter, she was a good girl. You know, she was like 10 years old and for as what kind of person she was, she was an usher in the church. Very much, you know ... She just, just good to go. I mean, as far as violence or anything like that, she never would do that," he said.As her family continues to grieve and the small town of 5,100 residents remains in shock, there are many unanswered questions. HOUSTON, Texas -- Only 536 people in the world know what it is like to be blasted from Earth and launched into space. NASA astronaut Stan Love is one of them. Love went into space for the first time in 2008, with NASA’s STS-122 mission. “It was an amazing experience,” said Love, “[of] driving out to the launch pad, strapping into the gigantic steaming hissing spaceship and having the countdown and then all the shaking and thrust of launch coming up into space and the engine shuts off and you are floating weightlessness.” Love grew up in Oregon and as a kid, with mountains all around him, he enjoyed exploring wonders on the Earth. At night though, he’d look to the sky and wondered about exploring space. So, getting there in 2009 was a dream come true, but it also inspired a bigger dream. He wanted to help more people get to space. “I look forward to a world where more people can have the experience of flying in space, and maybe a little more time to enjoy looking out the window and seeing the Earth, seeing the start,” said Love. For the past decade, he has focused on making space exploration possible for more people. “I’m working on the cockpit displays and controls and controls sticks the computer displays and the switches on the Orion spacecraft which is going to fly Artemis missions, “ Love added. The Artemis mission, expected to launch next year, will mark a big moment in space history: a moment where NASA plans on handing over travel to Earth’s lower orbit to the commercial industry. “We are to the point where American industry, not just American government, can handle that,” Love said. “There are a bunch of companies that want to start flying tourists on little suborbital hops.” Those suborbital hops are around 0,000, but as a lower-Earth orbit economy develops, those prices are expected to reduce drastically. In addition, allowing industry to focus on lower Earth’s orbit will allow NASA to focus on Artemis’ true goal of getting back to the moon, and preparing it for a possible long-term human presence. “That’s sort of the next logical step,” Love explains. “We think that in deep craters of the moon’s south pole, there is a lot of water ice and other materials that we can use to help start building a lunar economy based on the moon.”The possibilities from there are truly endless. NASA launches phase one of Artemis in 2020. By 2024, it expects to have astronauts actually heading back to the moon. 2464

For the third time in the span of less than a week, a House Republican lawmaker on Thursday blocked the passage of a multibillion-dollar disaster relief bill, essentially guaranteeing the bill won't pass until the full House is back from recess on Monday. The House and Senate are on recess this week, but when House Democrats tried to pass the legislation through unanimous consent on Thursday afternoon, Republican Rep. John Rose of Tennessee objected. The objection of just one lawmaker is all it takes to block legislation from being approved by unanimous consent. The legislation is still expected to have the votes to pass when the House returns to Washington next week, but the objection will stall the bill until a floor vote can take place. The .1 billion bill passed the Senate by a vote of 85 to 8 earlier this month and President Donald Trump has 871
