They’re not waiting for a home to go up for rent; they’re reaching out to landlords before the property is even available. 10News is sharing a man's creative way to make it San Diego. All it takes is one breathtaking look and the appeal is undeniable. Orange Avenue, The Hotel Del, the Ferry Landing; they all make Coronado irresistible."Coronado is awesome. It's such a small-town feel. People say ‘hi’ to each other. You know your neighbors," said Cory Stock.Stock is a hard-working Surface Rescue Swimmer Instructor for the Navy. So, Stock decided Coronado would also be a great place to call home. But there was one problem."The turnaround of places is so quick here," said Stock.Knowing anything in his price range might get snatched up in a heartbeat, Stock decided to get proactive and created a post on the Coronado Happenings Facebook page. He was looking for a one or two bedroom rental no later than January 1. And it worked. Within weeks Stack and his girlfriend found an affordable home near work, right in the middle of paradise. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With young children fast asleep in their bedroom, surveillance video shows a burglar on the prowl at a home in South Park. Just off 32nd Street, Billy McCowan woke up to a disturbing sight on Wednesday morning."Came over and saw the side door open to the garage," said McCowan.RELATED: La Mesa woman wakes up to burglar in her bedroomA look at the surveillance video revealed who had been on his property. Starting at about 8 p.m., a pickup truck pulls up and parks across from his home. At about 5 a.m., a man wrapped in a blanket emerges from the truck and walks through his front gate.McCowan believes the burglar walked through the unlocked door to a detached garage - a converted office - and grabbed an iPhone. Video shows the man roaming the property. Next up was a detached hot tub room."We had a small TV in here," said McCowan.In the video, the burglar is seen carrying that TV. Meanwhile, inside the home were McCowan's wife, and two children, ages 3 and 5. They were all asleep.Forty-five minutes after the man first arrives, the intruder is seen peering into the children's bedroom. By this time, McCowan has woken up and he's making coffee in the kitchen. The man appears to see him and ducks down, before quietly getting into his truck and driving off. It was a fortunate twist. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local Marine's dreams are close to becoming a reality in the form of a massive property in Dulzura. It is not just for Kalani Creutzberg. His efforts to help others prompted an Animal Planet star to join the cause. Nate Schoemer was also a Marine. He was fresh out of high school with his blood type on his boots when he joined the invasion of Iraq.  "The first group was out there for three days and when they came back you could tell that they've just been through hell," Schoemer said. "This is hard for me to talk about," he said with tears in his eyes. It is especially hard to him to discuss it with civilians who often cannot comprehend the horrors of war. He lost some friends on that deployment in 2003."I could hear it from where I was," he started. "I mean I could hear them screaming," It haunted his heart on home soil., but he said his dog's love lifted his spirits. "I need to continue on this mission and helping others the way she helped me," he added.When he got out of the service he became a master dog trainer. He went on to host an Animal Planet show called "Rescue Dog to Super Dog". In it, he saved shelter dogs and turned them into service dogs for people in need. In episode one, he trained Bas for Creutzberg, which is how the two met. Creutzberg survived chilling deployments, but the fight for his life followed him home. "Before I knew it I was homeless," Creutzberg explained. "It was embarrassing, it was shameful," Bas gave him a sense of purpose. "When I was going there to rescue him he was actually the one rescuing me," Creutzberg added. Now, he is on a mission to give homeless vets a home. He plans to buy a property that is nearly 300 acres in Dulzura. "We're going to run our day to day operations very much like when we were back in the service," he explained. "There will be structure, we will work together…… the very things that a lot of us miss."It does not end there.  They will also rescue homeless dogs  about to be euthanized."[We'll] allow both the veterans and the dogs to grow relationships and start anew," he said. Schoemer believed in the Cammies and Canines Sanctuary so much, he joined the efforts. He plans to turn some of the dogs on death row into service dogs for vets. "Just being around Marines and veterans is a great thing,"  Schoemer said with a big grin. Their goal is to get back to tackling battles together. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two San Diego area residents are asking the area's top two prosecutors to investigate and prosecute Assemblymember Todd Gloria for alleged violations of the Political Reform Act. According to a letter sent to San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan and San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliot, Kathryn Burton and Mat Wahlstrom allege Gloria "repeatedly violated PRA section 85200 by soliciting and receiving multiple contributions to his Assembly 2020 Committee before filing a statement of intent to run for the Assembly in 2020." The letter says, "without filing that statement, the FPPC's manual makes clear, he could not lawfully receive any funds into his Assembly 2020 Committee." The letter goes on to read, "my clients have reason to believe that there is a conspiracy to launder campaign money from an illegal campaign committee controlled by Mr. Gloria to the San Diego County Democratic Party, to a candidate to replace Mr. Gloria in the Assembly, and to several sitting members of the Assembly." According to the California Secretary of State's website, before raising any campaign funds, state candidates file "Statements of Intention" to run for a specific office. Candidates can file Statements of Intention for more than one office. Team 10 obtained Gloria's signed statement of intention, which shows the state received it on August 13, 2019. That's after the campaign committee was opened and filed a Recipient Committee Campaign Statement. Officials with the California Fair Political Practices Commission tell 10News the Assemblymember called FPPC Enforcement earlier this week and self-reported. Enforcement is determining the appropriate action moving forward. Team 10 reached out to Gloria's campaign, but as of this writing has not heard back.In a Tweet sent Wednesday Gloria wrote, "Some news reports have suggested that I am seeking re-election to the Assembly. I want to be very clear: I am not running for the Assembly, I am running for Mayor. My Assembly committee remains open to fulfill my responsibilities as a Member of the State Assembly until the end of my current term. The form filed by my committee yesterday (August 13th) simply corrected and administrative oversight that occurred when the original paperwork was filed months ago." A spokesperson for the District Attorney says they have received the letter but cannot confirm the existence of any potential investigation that may result. A spokesperson for the City Attorney tells 10News their office has received the letter from attorney David Kenney and is reviewing it. The allegations were first reported by La Prensa. 2777
