Freshman Republican Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona revealed Wednesday that she was raped while she served in the military."I am also a military sexually assault survivor," McSally said during a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing on sexual assault in the military.McSally said that in one case she was preyed upon and raped by a superior office and that the system in place "raped" her as well."I too felt like the system raped me over again," McSally said.An aide to the senator told CNN that she has spent the past several days working on the testimony. McSally felt the need to come forward because she wanted to speak honestly with witnesses.McSally rose to the rank of colonel in the US Air Force before retiring. IDAHO — If you've ever been to Wallowa Lake in eastern Oregon, you may have seen some seemingly tame deer. That has a lot to do with the fact that people are feeding them. But biologists in Idaho say feeding wild animals is a bad idea.Normally wild animals like deer are wary of humans, so why was a mule deer in the middle of McCall, Idaho, and why did it approach a KIVI reporter when he was pointing a camera at it? Darrel Meints, Idaho Fish and Game's deer and elk coordinator, thinks he knows."I'm guessing that deer has been fed based on its behavior,” Meints said. “I think she's going to see if you're going to throw her a handout."Deer that have been fed become habituated to humans, and what may begin as a seemingly compassionate act — feeding a hungry deer or two — can become a major nuisance for landowners."People will call us and the call will start out 'well, last week there was one or two deer in my yard and I felt a little sorry for them and I threw them a little hay and now there's 10 or 20 or 30 in my backyard, and they're eating all my shrubs and trees,' " said Meints. Getting that close to a deer is an interesting encounter to say the least, but feeding deer can actually increase their odds of dying, especially during winter."Mule deer don't do well eating alfalfa. They're browsers. They eat woody shrubs and trees and things of that nature. So, you can make them sick and they don't do well," Meints said.People who feed wildlife in high traffic areas like McCall, Idaho, greatly increase their likelihood of being hit by a car, which could kill the animal and cause thousands of dollars in damage. But that's not the only hazard habituated animals bring to humans and their pets. "When you have large numbers of animals like that, you will draw in predators like mountain lions or coyotes of that nature," said Meints. As tempting as it may be, these are just some of the many reasons biologists say, with the possible exception of song birds, feeding wild animals is a bad idea."Oftentimes people think they're doing the right thing and helping wildlife, but over the long run they're not. In fact, they could be doing more damage than good,” said Meints.During severe winters, fish and game departments perform emergency feeding operations, providing starving animals with the proper nutrition. 2378

For the first time in the history of the platform, Twitter has issued a fact check alert on a presidential tweet. On Tuesday, Twitter flagged several tweets containing misleading information about claims President Donald Trump made on Tuesday involving mail-in ballots. Twitter has come under fire in recent days for allegedly not applying its conduct standards on tweets sent by the president. The controversy was fueled by a conspiracy pushed by the president about prominent MSNBC host Joe Scarborough and the death of a former congressional staffer. The now deceased congressional staffer worked for Scarborough when he was a member of Congress. According to an autopsy released from the 2001 death, the staffer died when she fell and hit her head. The family of the deceased staffer called on Twitter to delete the tweets, claiming that had the tweets been sent by anyone other than the president, they would have been kicked off the platform. In a response to 977

For the second time in three years, Clemson is on top of the college football world, crushing Alabama in unexpected fashion by a 44-16 margin on Monday evening. With Alabama entering Monday's title game as the prohibitive favorite, the two squads competed as the clear top two squads in college football after impressive semifinal victories. Clemson, the No. 2-seed in the Playoff, easily defeated previously unbeaten Notre Dame 30-3 in last month's Cotton Bowl. Alabama easily beat Oklahoma 45-34 in last month's Orange Bowl. Although Alabama has claimed five national titles in the last decade, it has yet to win back-to-back championships. Clemson picks up its third title in program history. Clemson also became the first ever undefeated College Football Playoff champion, and the first modern college football team to finish the season 15-0.2019 marked the fifth College Football Playoff. Alabama has made the finals of the last four playoffs. Clemson has played in three College Football Playoff finals, squaring off against Bama all three times. Alabama held a 16-14 lead early in the second quarter. From there, Clemson dominated and shutout Alabama's high-powered offense the rest of the game. Freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence of Clemson outdueled his 'Bama counterpart Tua Tagovailoa by completing three touchdown passes and not getting picked off. Clemson's ability to convert on third down was a key difference, going 10-for-15, whereas Alabama went 4-for-13. 1489

Following the fourth night of unrest in Minneapolis, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz activated the Minnesota National Guard. The activation represents the largest domestic deployment in the Minnesota’s National Guard’s 164-year history. The move was in response to escalating tension in protests occurring in Minneapolis--as well as in several other U.S. cities—following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died while being detained by a white officer on Memorial Day. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday afternoon that ex-officer Derek Chauvin has been taken into custody and charged with 3rd degree murder, as well as manslaughter. The family of Floyd are still calling for the arrest of three other officers involved in Floyd's detainment. The death of Floyd was caught on several videos, that have since gone viral. The Minnesota National Guard announced it is activating more than 1,000 additional Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen on Saturday, according to a tweet from the organization. This is in addition to the 700 that were on duty as of late last night,” the tweet reads. Minnesota 1119
