FREEPORT, New York — There's no doubt that the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis police has sparked outrage across the nation. The protests sparked by his death have people of all ages standing up against injustice, including 7-year-old Wynta-Amor Rogers from Freeport, Long Island. The power and strength of her voice as she chants "no justice, no peace" is undeniable."I want everybody to get together to make sure the community comes in. I just want to make sure it's not like back in the old days," she said.Wynta-Amor walked alongside her mother, Lakyia Jackson, and other protesters during about a 2-mile walk from Freeport to the nearby town of Merrick to stand up against police brutality and the death of George Floyd."She said, 'mom, please let's go.' I said, 'no,' because it's wet outside. She said, 'no, I want to go, mom, I want to go'," Jackson said.Jackson's video of Wynta-Amor garnered attention from across the country on Instagram. Some of the reaction was positive; some was not. Despite the backlash, Jackson says she has no regrets."The negativity doesn't bother me because, at the end of the day, this is what's going on, and this is our future," she said. "So, we have to let our future see what's going on." 1259

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A man in Florida has been arrested after he admitted to critically injuring a newborn that was under his care after the baby woke him up shortly after a recent feeding, deputies say. Aaron James Bordelon, 29, has been charged with Felony Aggravated Battery Great Bodily Harm Child Neglect with Great Bodily Harm. The 16-day-old child is in critical condition, suffering from skull fractures and severe traumatic brain injury. Bordelon told deputies he "forcefully" picked up the baby and admitted "this is my fault." Shortly after picking up the child he said the child's physical condition deteriorated, breathing slowed and bruising under the eyes and on the eyelids was visible. Bordelon did not call for immediate medical attention at the time, according to the Sheriff's Office. When the newborn's mother arrived at their location, Bordelon ordered a Lyft ride share and took the child to Brandon Regional Hospital. According to a press release, Bordelon attempted to conceal the bruising on the newborn with makeup but the mother tried to remove it before they arrived at the emergency room, according to deputies. "Abuse in any form is unacceptable and this case is especially tragic and emotionally difficult for our detectives as it involves an innocent and defenseless child" said Sheriff Chad Chronister. 1355

Going through @TSA at @mspairport, the agent said she needed to pat down my braids. She pulled them behind my shoulders, laughed & said “giddyup!” as she snapped my braids like reins. My hair is part of my spirit. I am a Native woman. I am angry, humiliated. Your “fun” hurt.— tara houska (@zhaabowekwe) January 13, 2020 336

Federal authorities are treating the El Paso shooting as a case of domestic terrorism, according to the US Attorney for the Western District of Texas. The Justice Department is also "seriously considering" bringing federal hate crime and federal firearm charges, which carry a possible penalty of death, against the suspect, US Attorney John Bash said in a news conference.Three sources have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Patrick Crusius of Allen, Texas. The case appears to meet the statutory definition of domestic terrorism, Bash said. Saturday's shooting at an El Paso shopping center -- which left at least 20 dead and 26 injured -- "appears to be designed to intimidate a civilian population, to say the least," he said."We're going to do what we do to terrorists in this country, which is to deliver swift and certain justice," Bash said.El Paso County District Attorney Jaime Esparza said the suspect faces capital murder charges and will be eligible for the death penalty."We will seek the death penalty," he said.Authorities are investigating a racist, anti-immigrant screed that they believe was posted by a man who opened fire shortly after 10:30 a.m. local time.About 20 minutes earlier, a post on the online message board 8chan believed to be from the suspect laid out a dark vision of America overrun by Hispanic immigrants. The 2,300-word document, which police called a "manifesto," was attached to a post that said, "I'm probably going to die today."The writing is filled with white nationalist language and racist hatred toward immigrants and Latinos. It blames immigrants and first-generation Americans for taking away jobs.Although authorities are still investigating the suspect's connection to the document, 1749
