San Diego (KGTV) One plate at a time, a San Diego couple is hoping to help those living on the streets with no food to eat. They’re using their new food trailer to do just that. ‘#FeedingEveryone’ is the goal for the Duwara Consciousness Foundation. “Our foundation is about serving anyone and everyone,” says co-founder Harisimran Khalsa. Through donations from the community, couple Davinder and Harisimran were able to purchase a food trailer to help feed the homeless. The couple says they’re committed to helping others. They left their jobs, sold businesses, and are now living a simpler lifestyle. “When your passionate about something, you have to live the life of and see how it is,” says Davinder Singh. “We decided that we would give up the house that we were living in.”The 16-foot trailer is equipped with a griller, 2 part stove, refrigeration and prep space. Every food item made is plant-based. Donations and volunteers strictly power the organization. They are serving at least two locations every week. They hope to grow the non-profit and eventually purchase a shower bus for the homeless.  The organization has partnered with the Jewish Family Service to feed the homeless on Thursdays and Fill-A-Belly to serve those in need on Tuesdays. They are also working on a partnership with the Alpha Project in Downtown. Serving locations and times, as well as a donation page, is listed on the Duwara Consciousness Foundation website.  1507

SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) - New recommendations aim to help the thousands of teenagers living with depression who are suffering in silence. The American Academy of Pediatrics released new guidelines for primary care doctors to screen young people. They say 2 out of 3 depressed teens are not being identified by their doctors and not getting the care they need. One survey doctors can give to patients is just two questions, another is nine. The purpose is not to establish a final diagnosis but rather screen for depression in a "first step" approach. San Diego Pediatrician Jaime Friedman believes it's a positive step to help young people and that it will be fairly easy to incorporate into visits. She will soon be using tablets on which parents and teens can answer questions related to their visit, they'll also be able to conduct the depression screening on them. Doctors are also being advised to talk to families about safety plans, removing lethal medications or guns from the home to prevent suicide. The AAP recommends young people get screened at least once a year starting at age 12.  1144

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- President Trump's decision to delay nationwide ICE raids by two weeks is not stopping some San Diego community advocates from working overtime, educating migrants to know their rights. For Benjamin Prado, "Deportation" is always on his mind. "We see a policy of terror," Prado said. As a community advocate for 'American Friends Service Committee,' he connects migrants with various services. He has worked with those who were arrested at the Zion Market ICE Raid in February 2019."Whether people have documents or not, people have the right to work, and people have the right to produce and create a meaningful life for themselves," Prado said. Saturday, President Trump disagreed saying, "Everybody that came into the country illegally will be brought out of the country very legally."So even when the President announced that he would delay the planned nationwide ICE Raids initially scheduled to begin Sunday, Prado's work remains the same. "We are on a permanent campaign of informing families what their rights are," Prado said. "What their constitutional rights are, ensuring that they know that they don't have to speak to immigration law-enforcement, that they don't have to open the door, that they should demand to see any form of warrants that they have, whether it be judicial or administrative warrants that ICE produces."In a Tweet Saturday, Gavin Newsom agreed saying, "When we talk about knowing your rights, 'no abras la puerta.' Without a warrant, you don't have to open the door."Prado says it is imperative that families have a serious conversation with their children and relatives now, to avoid what are called "collateral arrests.""There have been instances where Immigration and Customs Enforcement not only goes after the individual, but they also go after family members," Prado said. "That is the other aspect of it. It is to inform and ensure that the entire family is able to defend their rights beyond just the individual that has a final removal."Prado recommends to network with humanitarian organizations. 10News contacted the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego, which announced their status as a 'Sanctuary Church.' San Diego's affordable housing crisis has been getting more dire over the last five years because there's a lack of resources, a new report from the California Housing Partnership says. The report, released Wednesday, says the county needs 143,800 more affordable rental homes to meet current demand. However, there's less money and resources going to them. The average rent in the county is now up to ,992, and about the city's lowest income renters are spending 70 percent of their money on housing. Stephen Russell, who heads the San Diego Housing Federation, said the region took a hit in 2012, when the state eliminated redevelopment funds - 20 percent of which were reserved for affordable housing. Now, as cost of living rises, there are nearly 10,000 homeless San Diegans, thousands of them sleeping on the streets.Bruce Carron, 72, was one of them, until he got into Talmadge Gateway, a new 60-unit complex for low-income seniors with ongoing medical needs."It's just more than what I thought I deserved, but somewhere along the line God wanted me to win somewhere in this crazy life that we have," Carron said. The city will soon decide whether to place a property tax bond on the November ballot to pay for more affordable housing. It would charge for every 0,000 of assessed value, and pay for 7,500 new homes. "Until we solve the problem of people sleeping on our streets, I don't think I can sleep in my bed with a good conscience," Russell said. The San Diego Taxpayers Association doesn't have a position on the potential measure, but in a statement chief execrative Haney Hong said more research was needed."Before we decide to throw more money at the problem, let's understand what we're getting right now and how our public agencies are performing," he said. The city rules committee will consider the bond for the ballot next month.  1924

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- One person is confirmed dead after two boats collided nine miles offshore from Imperial Beach. Fishermen on the “Prowler” were on their way back from Mexican Waters when their boat collided with a mega-yacht, the "Attessa IV" Friday night. One of the survivors on the Prowler spoke exclusively with 10News about his experience. It was supposed to be a fun overnight fishing trip for father-son duo Hung and Ken Ngo. Instead, they came back with an unbelievable survival story. 507
