According to the U.S. Drought Monitor's most recent report out Thursday, the only part of the state still experiencing any form of drought is a portion of extreme Northern California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As more San Diegans are working from home during the coronavirus outbreak, more pets are finding new families — but care extends past any quarantine orders.Helen Woodward Animal Center says the center has seen an uptick in adoptions, nearly doubling normal adoption rates at the center last weekend. Many of those new pet parents came from educational backgrounds."We met professors, teachers, and counselors who had all been asked to work remotely and suddenly had lots of hours in a quiet house," said Helen Woodward Animal Center Adoptions Services Manager Dora Dahlke. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Consumer prices rose by nearly four percent in San Diego over the last year largely due to an increase in the cost of gasoline, according to a new report by the U.S. Department of Labor. According to the report, prices in the San Diego area rose 3.8 percent over the last 12 months and 1 percent over the last two months. The largest increases stem from household furnishings and operations and housing, which rose by 9.3 and 5.2 percent over the last year. The report points out that an increase in prices for food and energy over the last two months was fueled by higher gas prices. The energy index jumped 11.4 percent over the last two months mainly due to higher gas prices, according to the report. Over the last year, food from home increased by more than 2 percent while food away from home actually decreased by 0.4 percent. California's gas tax will jump by another 5.6 cents per gallon on July 1, 2019. Although the report may seem discouraging, the cost increases were at least partially offset by a 1.1 percent price decline in education and communication. The report shows that items like cereal and baked goods were up by nearly 2 percent from May of 2018 to March of 2019. Apparel was up by more than 6 percent from May of 2018 to March of 2019. Milk and dairy products also rose by 2 percent in the same time period. Consumer prices increased in a similar way in neighboring Los Angeles. Over the last year, prices in Los Angeles rose by more than three percent, but May only saw prices rise by 0.2 percent. The report shows that the cost of household goods and operations rose by nearly 6 percent while housing jumped 4.4 percent. In the west as a whole, consumer prices rose by nearly 3 percent while increasing by 0.5 percent in May. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border Patrol agents say they found human remains in the Tijuana River Valley early Saturday.The agents discovered the human remains near the Tijuana River just before 8:20 a.m. on Dairy Mart Road and Clear Water Way, according to City News Service and Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison.The investigation was turned over to the San Diego Police Department's homicide detectives. 10News has reached out to San Diego Police, but have yet to hear back.No further information was immediately available.City News Service contributed to this report. 572

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As a Hillcrest man showered in his apartment, an intruder was helping himself to a "priceless" pendant.The surveillance video that Ramon Castillo has seen countless times remains hard to watch."Scary and very disturbing," said Castillo.In late June on a Monday morning just before 9, Castillo was showering in his apartment on 3rd Avenue. What he didn't know know: he wasn't alone. When Castillo got out of the shower after 20 minutes, the screen door which had been locked was completely open. Surveillance video revealed why. In it, a man pauses at the door and somehow gets past the screen door, before quietly raiding the apartment. Among the items stolen were speakers and a safe from a bedroom closet. Inside the safe: cash, personal documents and jewelry, including a silver pendant containing the ashes of her mother. She passed away in 2015 from an accidental drug overdose."I can't replace that. It's the last thing of my mom and now I don't have anything," said Castillo.The thief who snatched it was in and out in about five minutes. He was seen driving off in a sedan. Castillo say the burglar had to have heard the shower running and went in anyways."He didn't think twice about it.
