He had been on a fishing boat with local guide Mario Graniel when they were both shot dead, Belize Police Commissioner Chester Williams said in a press conference Monday recorded by the San Pedro Sun newspaper.In the recording, Williams said the tour guide had a disagreement with a local gang kingpin, and agrees that Swank was a "victim of circumstance."Graniel had earlier reported to police that someone fired shots at his home on Friday, but he never filed a formal complaint, Williams said."We maintain police presence in the area to protect him and the community from further shootings but we can't follow the man everywhere he goes," he said. Luckily, they found each other and completed the perfect pair.The match was made last Friday night when the Glen Lake Lakers football team heard that their neighboring Forest Area Marching Band had no one to play for after their football team's season was canceled -- Forest Area suspended its season due to low player participation.So, the Lakers invited the band to come play at theirs."No Friday night football game under those lights is complete without your sideline cheer team and a marching band," Mark Mattson, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Glen Lake, told CNN.Thrilled at the opportunity to perform for a crowd, the band quickly learned the Lakers' fight song. Among them was an 87-year-old man getting an honorary diploma, 70 years after he left school for the military.Floyd Edward Hoskins, known to friends and family members as Ed, left Ellet High School in 1949 at age 17 to join the military.“Three years, three months, 19 days,” Hoskins said of his total time in the Army. During that time, he said, he was supposed to serve in Korea but was sent to Alaska for two years instead.When he came home, Hoskins said he initially had trouble finding a job but eventually landed one at Goodyear Tire and Rubber, where he worked for “44 years, four months, three weeks and one day.”Hoskins moved to Hawaii two years ago to live with one of his sons and his daughter-in-law. His daughter-in-law, Cynthia Allen Hoskins, began doing some research into veterans’ benefits.“We are retired military, my husband and I,” Cynthia Allen Hoskins said. “And we were doing some research as far as our kids and their benefits in order to continue their college education.”She ran across information about the benefits the State of Ohio provides to veterans, where she learned her father-in-law might be eligible to receive his high school diploma. It’s just a piece of paper,’ ” Cynthia Allen Hoskins said. “But after we explained to him, ‘Dad, you know, you really pushed education on us, we push it onto the grandkids.
