Call it futuristic, but in reality, it's science redirected to make people feel better.Eric Rice, founder and CEO of Quanta, gave a virtual tour of his Los Angeles-based lab which produces the muscle Rub.“We have the brain and the body,” Rice said. “The brain does all the calculation. Its where we input information and then the body itself is a gigantic freezer with chambers.”As Rice showed the machines that produce Quanta, and how they work, he said, “Here’s our batches of muscle rub. You can see everything being made. Everything’s organic, natural, grown from the earth. We don’t use any synthetic materials for any of our products.”Running Quanta, he's leading the charge in new technology geared toward pain management."Pain right now affects 22% of the world’s population, or 1.7 billion people daily,” Rice said. “Chronic pain, pain that lasts 3 weeks or longer, that’s considered chronic.”Rice is a former baseball player, so pain is something that Rice knows all too well.“I’m a former athlete and I have horrible knees, shoulders and back,” Rice said. “We started out with a simple muscle rub with a few ingredients and CBD was a great place for us to start. It’s been around, patented, but used for one pharmaceutical solution.”He took the concept of CBD or cannabidiol and applied his knowledge of quantum physics and biochemistry to change molecules, which then makes ingredients more effective.“Imagine my finger point being a nucleus. When you’re alive, electrons rotate like this, really far really fast from the center,” Rice said. “As you die and age, they slow down and get closer to the nucleus. What we do is use our technology to speed it back up and stabilize the cell so we’re creating excited state molecules that don’t ionize and oxidize.”It's a unique business concept, and it's one that even he admits sounds out of this world.“We use really contemporary if not futuristic science to increase the amount of energy to molecules so that we use an ingredient for your skin or your health it performs 3-500 % better than anything else you’ll find in the market,” Rice said. The market he's referring to is topical CBD, which is seemingly everywhere these days.Dr. Richard Sorgnard specializes in electrical cell signaling technology, which is a medical device that treats severe pain.“These are placed on the body in a specific array depending on the diagnosis and then when the machine is turned on it will deliver 12 types of electrical stimulation,” Sorgnard said.He recommends Quanta to his patients, before, during and after the treatment. The machine, he says, treats all kinds of pain and feels like a massage. With Quanta, he says, patients are resolving their problems and not masking them.“We noticed it made a great afterglow for the treatment- when we use them together the patients get a better response for the initial sensation,” Sorgnard said.Rice says Quanta is expanding beyond topical pain relief and into vitamins, supplements and skin care.“I can absolutely see us heavily involved in agriculture, food, beverage anything having to do with energy and natural ingredients is really kind of our focus. Pharmaceutical as well as helping people grow plant matter on different planets,” Rice said.He says Quanta has delayed his own surgeries for years and believes polarizing ingredients is the world's next step into the future and beyond.Rice’s website does note that Quanta’s effectiveness has not been evaluated by the FDA. The FDA adds that while there might be some to CBD products, there are potential side effects that should weighed. More info can be seen here. 3622

CHICAGO — A statue of Christopher Columbus in downtown Chicago's Grant Park was taken down early Friday, a week after protesters trying to topple the monument to the Italian explorer clashed with police.Crews covered the statue, secured it with straps and used a large crane to remove the statue from its pedestal as a small crowd gathered to watch.Several work trucks were seen in the area, but it was unclear where the statue would be taken. The Associated Press sent an email Friday seeking comment from Mayor Lori Lightfoot's office.Last Friday, 18 police officers were injured when protesters tried to topple the statue. According to CNN, protesters used fireworks, frozen bottles and rocks as projectiles. Twelve people were arrested. The staute's removal also comes amid a plan by President Donald Trump to dispatch federal law enforcement agents to the city to respond to gun violence, prompting worries that the surge will inhibit residents' ability to hold demonstrations.Protesters have targeted statues of Christopher Columbus across the country because of the explorers' controversial history of killing Native people upon his arrival in the Americas. Several cities have chosen to remove Columbus statues amid monthslong protests against police brutality and systemic racism. 1295

CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cal Fire responded Saturday afternoon to a large fire burning near the border in Campo. According to the agency, the fire is raging near Forest Gate Road and Border Road.Although Southern California Air Operations tweeted around 11:45 a.m. that the fire "is now well established on the U.S. side," Cal Fire says the blaze never reached the U.S. Air Operations said it sent several aircraft to the fire, including two tankers and two helicopters, but around 1 p.m., all aircraft were released from the fire. The agency said the fire is burning in light flashy fuels with a rapid rate of spread. The blaze is estimated at 50 to 100 acres currently, Cal Fire reported. Smoke could be seen rising from the hills east of Tecate, Mexico. No other details are available at this time.Stay with 10News for the latest updates on this developing story. 873

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- Several activist groups will gather outside the Carlsbad Police Department on Thursday, demanding change following a controversial encounter between an African-American man and Carlsbad officers last month. The group will release details on a meeting they had with the Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Carlsbad, Mickey Williams. The meeting was organized to address the use of force and arrest of a Black man by officers on June 11.The police department previously released a video that juxtaposed three camera angles of the confrontation with the Marcel Cox-Harshaw.RELATED: Police release body camera footage amid public concerns over officer misconductA witness' phone shows officers using a Taser on Harshaw and pressing his head into the pavement. Two other videos from police body cameras show officers meeting paramedics who were called out to a report of a man face down on the sidewalk. Police say that while medics evaluated Harshaw, he became agitated, yelled profanities and began walking quickly toward them. The department says that officers feared for the medics' safety, so they reached out and told Harshaw to stop, but he continued to yell as they tried to cuff him.Officers reported that they then used a Taser to subdue him after he continued to yell, struggle, turn and pull away.Activists dispute the department's account of the night, and they are asking the department to create an oversight board that would include community members, as well as review its de-escalation policy. 1545

CARLSBAD (CNS) - A 47-year-old man suffered severe injuries when he lost control of his speeding car and struck a tree on a Carlsbad street, police said Tuesday.Dispatchers received a report of a solo vehicle crash shortly before 6:10 p.m. Monday in the 7100 block of Corintia Street, off Alga Road, Carlsbad police Lt. Christie Calderwood said.Officers responded and found the man -- a Carlsbad resident -- unconscious inside a Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 sedan, Calderwood said.A preliminary investigation found that the victim was speeding when he struck a curb, lost control of the sedan and crashed into the tree, the lieutenant said.Paramedics took the injured motorist to the hospital for treatment of "severe injuries," Calderwood said. An update on the man's condition was not immediately available and it was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Cpl. Travis Anderson, a Carlsbad police accident investigator, at 760-931-2208 or travis.anderson@carlsbadca.gov. 1062
