Big tech made a show on Sunday night and Monday of moving against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his media company InfoWars. But Apple and Google are both still selling its app, which contains some of the same type of content that both tech giants have pulled from elsewhere on their platforms.It's unclear how long the app has been available in the two app stores, but InfoWars has been publicizing the app's availability since at least July 13.Both stores categorize InfoWars as "news." But asked on Monday why the app remained live even after the podcasts had been pulled, an Apple spokesperson responded in a statement, "Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users. Podcasts that violate these guidelines are removed from our directory making them no longer searchable or available for download or streaming. We believe in representing a wide range of views, so long as people are respectful to those with differing opinions."A Google spokesperson told CNN, "While we don't comment on specific apps, we can confirm that our content policies are designed to provide a great experience for users and developers. If an app violates our policies, we take action."Both Apple and Google approve all apps sold in their stores. In a message posted Monday on Twitter, after the other platforms had taken down some of his and his company's content, Jones told his fans to watch live streams on the InfoWars website, calling it "the one platform that they CAN'T ban."Apple and Google have both banned apps before.Gab, which bills itself as a conservative alternative to Twitter from their app stores, was blocked by Apple in January 2017 over what Apple termed hate speech. For students with special needs, it can be especially challenging. Learning new life skills is about overcoming those challenges.From inside her home, special education teacher Rebecca Josefek begins her classes with meditation each morning.“We try to find one that would energize us and get us started for the day. But it's important for them to center to focus,” said Josefek.For the last six summers, the special education teacher at Proviso East High School has worked on an extended year program for high school students with special needs.“We prepare these kids for a productive life after high school,” said Josefek.Normally, the summer class is hands on, focused on life-skill building like cooking and gardening.Josefek says in-person instruction is critical to these students' development.But this year, like so many things, it’s almost completely online. For the nearly 7 million students with special needs, it can be especially harrowing.“It's scary and it's hard with the kids, because we've lost some kids, like they don't want to be on or they're on and they just don't want to be present, like they're just in the background,” said Josefek.Kamron Bell, a 15-year-old sophomore at Proviso West High School, has Down syndrome. Though this year the summer program has required adjustment, he’s taken the virtual learning in stride.“I like it,” he said with a smile.For Kamron’s mother, Alison Bell, not having the in-person instruction means she has to take on a more active role.“Kam had an aide who had a one-on-one aid when he was in school, so I took the place of the aid. I think it just kind of sitting next to him and making sure that he stayed on task and that they could understand him,” said the mother.No one knows what the long-term impact of distance learning will be on these students. Josefek says it’s been a tough journey already.“It's a challenge and I think they're missing a lot. So, they like their social interaction with each other and with us as teachers,” she said.Educators say there will likely be significant regression – a phenomenon known as the “summer slide.” And the longer students are away from traditional classrooms – the more pronounced that regression could become.It’s one reason Josefek hopes remote learning will be long gone by next summer.“I hope but we will continue this summer program whether we're online or we are in person because it's definitely a needed program for these students.” 2620

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart announced Tuesday that it’s launching a new membership program called Walmart+ that can save customers money and time.Walmart+ members will receive unlimited free delivery from stores, fuel discounts and access to tools that make shopping faster, the company said in a press release.Membership will be available to all customers on Sept. 15 and it will cost a year or .95 per month, a similar price point to Amazon Prime. BARTOW, Fla. — The grave of a U.S. veteran buried 19 years ago in Bartow, Florida was dug up, according to Bartow Police. His clothes were taken right off his body and found on the ground near the casket. Family members said they can’t understand who would do this. The grave belongs to 75-year-old Willie Graham, who was laid to rest in 1999 after he spent his entire life giving to others. He served in the Army during World War II and was a math teacher in Polk County for years. Graham is well known in the Bartow community, and his grave site is next to his mother and father and several other relatives."To take his funeral garb, his clothing off of him and just have it thrown on the ground, I just can't wrap my head around it,” said Cheryl Brown, Willie Graham’s niece. Her family came to the site Sunday to lay flowers down on her mother's grave when they noticed a blue tarp on top of Graham's grave site. According to police, it had been discovered by a city parks and recreation employee on May 10. "It had to take two or three people several hours to get this done. It had to be done at night where no one can see it,” said family member Otto Brown.  Family members are confused why police couldn’t find any of them to notify, but police said they don’t have records because it’s not city property.The report said police attempted to get information from the funeral home that did the burial 19 years ago, but said they also don’t own the property. Scripps station WFTS in Tampa reached out to Coney Funeral Home, and are waiting to hear back.Police said they are also trying to find out who did this. Brown said they don't bury their family members with valuables."That's a very evil human being that did this and the world could do without them,” Otto Brown said. Willie’s wife, who lives in Miami, can’t make it to the gravesite because she just had hip surgery, but said she is also sick to her stomach over this. "Right now what's important is for us to put my uncle back at rest,” Cheryl Brown said.The family is in contact with police at this point. Now, with new health restrictions, that number has been cut to 83.“Business has been affected greatly,” Armatas said. “It’s a different world, it’s a different way to operate, and it’s a different way to serve.”Less seating means less opportunities to make money which led management at Sam’s to look outside their restaurant to serve more customers.“I kind of just looked over at my neighbor and thought, ‘hey, they’re not using that patio during the day. Maybe I can use that patio during the day,’” Armatas said. “So, I got in contact with Matt.”Matt Ruff is the general manager and part owner of Dazzle, one of the top 100 jazz clubs in the world.“It’s kind of foolish not to lend our neighbors a hand during this time,” Ruff said.Ruff is lending Dazzle’s outdoor patio space to Sam’s during the day for free, a move customers seem to appreciate while industry experts are calling it a financial Band-Aid.According to the National Restaurant Association, somewhere between 15,000 to 20,000 restaurants across the country closed their doors for good during this pandemic.Experts expect that number to increase nationwide as an estimated 8,000,000 American service industry workers are already out of jobs.“We’re monthly doing the revenue we would do on a good Saturday,” Ruff said. “How do you survive with doing something like that?”So far, this partnership with Dazzle and Sam’s sharing space seems to be working out well for both businesses.“It’s been awesome,” Armatas said. ”It’s an additional 12 to 15 seats that we didn’t have before.”The plan is to continue sharing this space until these establishments are able to operate at full capacity or the weather no longer allows for outdoor seating. 2020
