SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dog owners who live in Normal Heights are worried about the future of the off-leash dog park at Ward Canyon.Earlier this month, signs appeared saying the large-dog area would be closed through the end of March 2020. People who use the park say it's because a few neighbors complained about the noise to the local Advisory Committee.Because the large-dog area is closed, all sizes of dogs have been sharing the small-dog area next to it."It's really crowded," says dog owner Christina Ardon. "When people get off work, everyone's over here. It's a little bit of a madhouse.""It's intimidating to smaller dogs," says Jason Douglas-Hiley. "They won't come into the park because they're afraid of the large dogs harassing the smaller dogs."Meanwhile, the City of San Diego has plans to renovate the entire park. Renderings show the area where the large-dog park currently sits would be turned into a community garden. The small-dog park would be expanded.But, City Councilmember Chris Ward's office says there is no funding for that project, and no timetable for when it could be added to the budget.People who use the park say they're afraid it will disappear while the project sits in limbo."To have to wait 2-5 years for them to construct a new park is a lifetime for a dog," says Douglas-Hiley.Park supporters have started a petition, asking the city to safeguard the small-dog area and also fence off a different portion of Ward Canyon for large dogs to use. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Former Congressman Darrell Issa is standing behind a political ad that the San Diego chair of his own party has called highly inappropriate.The ad, running on local television, takes aim at Carl DeMaio, a key Issa opponent in the race to replace Duncan Hunter in California's 50th Congressional District. The campaign commercial presents itself as a retort to a recent DeMaio ad that questioned Issa's dedication to President Trump. Issa's ad turns that around. However, the attacks appear to get personal. The ad uses images of two news article headlines in The Hill and The Los Angeles Blade that describe DeMaio as "Gay." It also uses images of MS-13 gang members when talking about DeMaio's stance on a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (DeMaio said in The Hill article that he supports a path for well-educated immigrants and those who came to the U.S. as children.)San Diego Republican Party Chair Tony Krvaric described the ad as highly inappropriate."We encourage all candidates to stick to the issues," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Frustrated business owners are speaking out after a rash of break-ins at local wineries and breweries.Lisa Miller, the co-owner of Koi Zen Cellars in Carmen Mountain Ranch, says her heart sank after she arrived at her winery one morning a few weeks ago."The plant was move to the side and the window was completely shattered. My heart started pounding. I got very anxious," said Miller.Inside, she tasted more anxiety. Police believe the intruder was looking for the cash register, something Miller doesn't have. Instead, the burglar grabbed 40 pieces of consignment jewelry valued at more than ,000."When the detective arrived, he said this has been happening in other wineries and breweries in the area," said Miler.Longship Brewery in Mira Mesa in early April: surveillance video shows a person in a hoodie breaking a window, then crawling through the window. Two days later at the Black Plague Brewery in Oceanside, an intruder wearing a mask and hoodie kicked through a window, slipped in and raced right for the cash drawer, before leaving and driving off in a white Jeep Patriot. Detectives told Miller some 18 breweries and wineries targeted in the past few months. "This makes me really sad, mom-and-pop places put their heart and soul into their business no matter what their business is. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dramatic video shows what happened after a liquor store owner caught thieves taking off with a pricey bottle in University City.The theft that spurred Haithem Ballo into action unfolded on in afternoon in September. Surveillance video shows two women entering Courtesy Liquor and Deli. Ballo says the two women asked about his day and browsed the store. They asked about prices, pulling out inexpensive options and put them back on the shelf.A few minutes later, one of the two grabs a 0 bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky. At the checkout, one of women is seen walking out. The other woman waits. He grabs at the bottle, in the hands of a woman in the back. With the truck on the move, he's struck in the head with the bottle. It's not easy to let people steal from you," said Ballo.Ballo says the three he saw are part of a ring of at least eight thieves that have stolen pricey liquor from the Vons store next door, repeatedly for the past six months. He says the same two women were recorded stealing from Vons this weekend. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Five people were injured following a crash in Kearny Mesa involving an ambulance Thursday afternoon. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the crash happened around 2:15 near Kearny Villa Road and Balboa Avenue. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of an Infinity was speeding in a northbound lane on Kearny Villa Road when he crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting the ambulance and shoving a Hyundai to the side of the road. The driver of the infinity suffered non-life threatening injuries while his passenger suffered several broken bones and internal injuries considered life threatening. The driver and passenger of the ambulance and driver of the Hyundai all suffered non-life threatening injuries. Everyone involved in the crash was taken to the hospital, police say. Update #1 regarding Traffic alert. 5 injured with several being serious injuries. No patient was in the ambulance at the time. Detectives are now at the scene investigating.
