But a group of Chula Vista students has it down to a science.Rancho Del Rey Middle School's Royal Robotics team is a "well-oiled machine," as they like to put it. "It's just an amazing amount of dedication."Thanks to the completeness of their design notebook, which houses all their data, the team hopes to grab the award for best design and have a championship banner to hang at Rancho Del Rey.But the team faces one last obstacle, getting to Kentucky."It is an enormous financial obligation that I'm trying desperately to make up because the funding is basically all us," Braito said.The team has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses and has raised almost half of their goal. (KGTV) - Sweetwater Union High School District is trying to be proactive in the way it approaches teenage suicide.They'll hold an Open Forum to discuss the issue Thursday night, March 7, at Otay Ranch High School (1250 Olympic Parkway). The meeting starts at 6 pm."One life lost is one too many," says District Spokesperson Manny Rubio.According to the latest numbers from the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council, suicides rose in 2017 after three years of holding steady. There were 458 deaths by suicide in 2017.The report also found that 14.5 percent of students had seriously considered suicide.Rubio says any time there is an incident with a Sweetwater student, they have crisis counselors and psychologists who go to campus. They also follow up with students in the ensuing months. But those are all reactive measures.To be more proactive, SUHSD officials asked students what issues they want to address concerning suicide. Among the responses were depression, social media pressure and bullying.The topics will be front and center of the public forum Thursday night."We want to make sure as we're going forward, that we're looking at what we can to better support our students," says Rubio. "This was one of the ideas. So let's talk about this in the open and let's talk about this publicly so that we can make sure that our students are feeling supported and feeling recognized."The event is open to the public. CINCINNATI – Police arrested a Cincinnati woman Tuesday after she left her 7-month-old child in her vehicle while she visited a hair salon, according to court records.Jaimyce McClinton, 37, is charged with one count of endangering a child.An officer found McClinton's baby locked in the vehicle as the temperature outside reached 76 degrees, court records state.The arresting officer noted the “feels like” temperature outside was 84 degrees.Police said the baby was left alone in the locked vehicle for 34 minutes.Court records did not state the baby’s condition or the location of the salon. 611

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A pedestrian died and others, including children, were injured Monday in a crash involving a construction truck in Chula Vista. The truck driver lost control about 1:15 p.m. in the 500 block of 4th Ave near Shasta Street, police said. The location is a residential street near Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista. The truck hit parked cars including a black pickup, which then struck a pedestrian before flipping over, said officers.Paramedics took the pedestrian to the hospital with critical injuries. The victim, an 81-year-old, later died, police confirmed. A mother and her two children, a baby and a girl, were in a parked car and suffered minor injuries. Chula Vista police are investigating the cause of the crash. At this time, police say it's unclear whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved. 844
