SAN DIEGO (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday began testing the use of body cameras by its employees at nine locations, potentially leading to a broad rollout by the nation's largest law enforcement agency that would make it the first federal agency to use the devices on a large scale.Customs and Border Protection previously concluded in 2015 after a yearlong study that body cameras were not yet suitable for widespread use due to cost, technological challenges and the need for labor union approval. However, it said the cameras had potential in limited circumstances.The agency's review also found that cameras used in field tests did not function well in the rugged, remote conditions in which many Border Patrol agents work."Some fared better than others," said Austin Skero, director of the agency's law enforcement safety and compliance directorate.Customs and Border Protection officials said technology has evolved since the 2015 test, and the cameras used in the current field tests will build on lessons learned in the previous test. SAN DIEGO — Democratic Congressman Mike Levin has opened a commanding 20-point lead over Republican challenger Brian Maryott in coastal North County's 49th district, according to a new scientific poll.The ABC-10News Union-Tribune poll shows Levin leading Maryott 56 percent to 36 percent, with the remainder undecided. It's an increase over the 49 percent to 37 percent lead Levin had over Maryott in a prior poll taken in mid-September. The district stretches from Del Mar into parts of southern Orange County."It's all over but the shouting," said political analyst John Dadian, who said the district has become increasingly democratic over the last 15 years. "It was getting bluer gradually, and now, the last election cycle and I believe this one, we're going to see the fruit come to bear."Levin won the 49th District seat in 2018 after Republican Darrell Issa decided not to seek re-election after nearly two decades. Issa is now running for Congress in east county's 50th District, which leans Republican. "We've seen a lot of the communities that have shifted to more in the democratic party since 2016 are these more suburban, well-educated communities like many of the communities in California's 49th," said Stephen Goggin, a lecturer in the political science department at San Diego State University. The poll of 514 likely voters shows Levin getting the support of 68 percent of independents, with Maryott, a San Juan Capistrano councilman, getting just 15 percent of them. SAN DIEGO (CNS and KGTV) - A young man and woman who had been dating were found dead in the doorway of a home in the Lake Murray area of San Diego in what authorities said was a murder-suicide.Police received a call about 8 p.m. Tuesday of someone being shot in the 6300 block of Budlong Avenue.When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Willow Singer and her ex-boyfriend 19-year-old Thomas Hayes with gunshot wounds to the upper body, according to Lt. Anthony Dupree of the San Diego Police Department. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 45-year-old man got into an argument with two males at the entrance to an alley in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood and was shot in the back Friday evening.The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. at the entrance to an alley at 53rd Street and Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.The man was standing with his girlfriend when the two males walked up, argued and one male fired several shots at the victim, hitting him once in the back, Heims said. The suspects fled the scene in separate vehicles, one of them red.Paramedics took the victim to a hospital where his injury was not believed life-threatening, Heims said.Gang detectives were investigating, Heims said. 738
