DENVER – The three detainees who escaped an immigration detention facility in Aurora on Sunday have been captured, officials announced on Friday.The escapees were found in three different locations but had spent several nights together in a safe house in Colorado Springs after the escape, according to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement news release.Amilcar Aguilar-Hernandez, 23, from El Salvador, who is currently a suspect in a rape case in Fort Carson, was found in Colorado Springs, where ICE officers took him into custody.Aguilar-Hernandez was sleeping at a job site to avoid being recaptured, an ICE news release said. CENTENNIAL, Colo. — A local man has been charged with animal cruelty after footage from a doorbell camera shows him kicking his dog.The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Regions Animal Law Enforcement says the security footage shows 44-year-old Richard Johnston kicking his dog, Forty. Johnston's dog was removed from the home and is currently in the care of the Humane Society.Will Saggau's doorbell camera recorded the abuse. Saggau said he believes Johnston lives in the same complex, and the dog may have gotten out.After seeing the video, he and his wife immediately alerted authorities."If you see that anywhere, do something. You got to do something," Saggau said.The couple reported the abuse Thursday morning, and by that evening, authorities had found Johnston and Forty. The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Regions Animal Law Enforcement said the video, along with the dog's apparent injuries, was all the evidence they needed. Forty's injuries are currently being evaluated."I feel relieved, but I have a lot of people asking where's the dog? Where's the dog?" But a group in Dayton, Ohio, believes some of the best help can come from those who’ve been through the fight already.“I was there, I was desperate,” said Waldo Littlejohn.“I lost a nephew and a sister to this epidemic,” said Kevin Kerley.” So it’s personal to me.”"I ended up DOA for 23 minutes,” Erica Gross said. The Dayton Fellowship Club, for many, is a house of hope.They help people dealing with substance abuse disorders. The only thing they need to have to walk through the door is a desire to stop using. “In the last four-to have five years it’s really gotten worse,” Kerley said of the opioid epidemic in Dayton.Gross attributes the issue, at least in part, to doctors.“I think a lot of it does have to do with the doctor, doctors prescribe it,” Gross said. “I know for me, that’s something I’ve just now realized is that’s what kind of kicked off a lot of things for me.”Littlejohn adds there are other factors as well.“It can be attributed to lack of jobs, it can be attributed to poverty, there’s a lot of things that can contribute to that,” he said.Kerley said it’s taken over the community he’s known his whole life.“It’s taken over our community,” he said. “I was born and raised in this area and I’ve seen the devastation that it’s done. The kids and the housing and the deaths the plight of the neighborhood, it’s just destroying our home.” Littlejohn has been in recover for 21 years.Having been through the fight himself, he says the country is facing a gigantic challenge in the face of the opioid crisis.“The people coming through this door now are getting younger and younger, but they are still coming, they are still looking for help,” Kerley said. “That means there’s still hope in this community.”Littlejohn agrees.“I’m very hopeful,” he said. “I’m very enthused about it.
