NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A 22-year-old man was killed in a shooting at Opry Mills Mall, which caused chaos for shoppers inside.First responders initially answered a call of an active shooter in the mall, which prompted a heavy police presence, but they learned the call was not accurate once at the scene.The shooting happened inside the mall in a hallway near the Auntie Anne's pretzel shop across from Old Navy around 2:23 p.m. The victim was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.According to police officials, a dispute at the mall between two men ended in gunfire. The suspected shooter ran from the mall to a ticketing booth outside. He placed his gun on the booth counter and told the people inside to call 911. He then surrendered to police once they arrived.There was no additional imminent threat known. Both he and the victim are 22 years old and from Nashville.Some Metro Nashville Public Schools were placed on lockout for a short time including Two River’s Middle School, Pennington Elementary School, McGavock Elementary School, Stanford Montessori and Litton Middle School. It has since been lifted.Three students were still at the Academy at Opry Mills when the shooting happened and were able to get out and taken to McGavock High School.Opry Mills Mall spans 1,154,000 square feet with more than 200 stores. It also includes nine sit-down restaurants.Officials said it appeared to have been an ongoing dispute that prompted the shooting. The identities of the victim and suspect have not yet been released.Customers inside the mall were told to stay put and away from the entrances.They said the mall was being swept by officers as a precaution. Police evacuated Bass Pro, Johnny Rockets, the food court and other areas.The Gaylord Opryland Hotel, was placed on lockdown when the shooting occurred, but it has since been lifted. 1974

(KGTV) - A U.S. Postal Service deliveryman was pinned against his mail van in National City Thursday when a driver having a seizure struck him, witnesses said.Surveillance video shows the sedan crash into the USPS worker as he stood at the back of his van at 2907 Highland Ave. Witnesses jumped into the vehicle to back it up and stop the engine. The postal worker fell to the ground as passersby called for help. National City Police officers arrived and put a tourniquet on one of the postal worker’s legs. He was alert but suffering major injuries, firefighters said. The man was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center.The driver who struck the postal workers has a history of seizures, National City firefighters said. He was also taken to a hospital for evaluation. 798

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee woman who contracted the COVID-19 virus thought it came back last month, but instead, received a potentially life-saving diagnosis.Melissa Armour tested positive back in March for the coronavirus. Her symptoms were severe, and she was hospitalized."You have double pneumonia, you have the dry cough, you have a fever of 104 [degrees]," said Armour.She battled it for weeks, and seemed to recover. That was until her symptoms returned in August."I would be coughing out my lungs," Armour said. "I couldn't even talk."At first glance, it appeared the virus had returned stronger than before."They did X-rays, CT scans," she said. "They found that my left lung partially collapsed and I had pneumonia again."But when her tests came back, she received an unexpected diagnosis."I was like, check it again," Armour said.It wasn't COVID-19, it was cancer."I just couldn't believe it," she said. "And the doctors and the nurses were like 'well you might not like to hear this but the coronavirus actually saved your life because we caught leukemia on time.'"Armour was cared for by Dr. Zartash Gul, a hematologist oncologist at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, and Dr. Federico Sanchez, the medical director for Aurora Cancer Care. They said because they caught her leukemia early enough, they were able to start Armour on a mild treatment.If they had caught it until later, they might have had to administer a more aggressive plan."I think it benefited her in the sense that, because of her concern for COVID, she showed up and she was diagnosed maybe slightly earlier than she could have," Gul said."Everything looks like COVID and COVID looks like everything else," Sanchez said. "So, it's very difficult to determine what you have in this time with a pandemic. Everybody has COVID until proven otherwise."Armour is one of the lucky ones during this pandemic.A study done by the Journal of American Medical Association looked at new diagnoses of six common cancers during the pandemic, and found diagnoses are down 46 percent. Leukemia was not one of the cancers included in the six.The Journal of Clinical Oncology looked at two common cancer screenings and found those are significantly down as well. Mammograms are down 89 percent, and colorectal screenings down 84 percent.At Aurora St. Luke's, Sanchez estimates their screenings are down by about 40 percent, adding that could have serious impacts down the road."Our concern has been that we've been bracing ourselves and we started to see the effects," Sanchez said. "That we're going to be seeing a lot more advanced cancers in the next coming year, just because we miss the opportunity to find them early."Gul points out that Armour likely would have come in for treatment at some point for her leukemia."Leukemia is a fast-growing disease that [doesn't] have a screening program for the patients (who) are sick when they come," Gul said.But more and more people are putting off routine cancer screenings, potentially for fear of contracting the virus at the doctor's office or hospital."I would hate for people to miss an operable lung cancer or operable breast cancer or colon cancer that could be cured, I'm literally saying cured," Sanchez said.They want people to treat their health as essential."I would say that coming to the hospital is probably safer than going into a restaurant at this time," Sanchez said.Despite the potentially life-saving diagnosis, Armour wants people to take the virus seriously and wear a mask.This story originally reported by Marty Hobe on TMJ4.com. 3572

Cars included in the recall are 2012 to 2018 model years with 2-liter four-cylinder engines.The recall states a canister purge valve can malfunction. Nashville will be home to Amazon’s new executive operations center -- bringing 5,000 jobs to the area and making it the largest jobs announcement in Tennessee's history.  Amazon made the announcement Tuesday morning, saying the location would be its new Operations Center of Excellence and be the company's headquarters for its logistics group. Amazon has chosen New York City and Northern Virginia to split duty as its second headquarters.  Nashville will serve as the company’s Retail Operations division, which will be located in downtown just north of The Gulch in the Nashville Yards development -- a billion dollar project between Church Street and West End. The one million square foot office space will house the tech and management functions of the Retail Operations division, including customer fulfillment, customer service, transportation, and supply chain, amongst others.“Amazon has spent the past year searching the nation for the best possible locations to expand and it chose Tennessee because of our business-friendly policies, low taxes and skilled workforce," Governor Bill Haslam said in a statement. The company is making an estimated 3 million capital investment over seven years and creating 5,000 net new full-time jobs with an average pay of .32 an hour, which is more than 0,000 a year.Currently, Amazon employs approximately 2,500 people in the Nashville region across five fulfillment and sortation centers.
