SHANGHAI, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama will start his four-day China visit Sunday in Shanghai, and the highlight of his visit in the eastern city will be broadcast live by Xinhuanet, the online news service of the Xinhua News Agency.     This is Obama's first visit to China since he took office in the White House more than a year ago.     Obama is scheduled to meet with Chinese youth on Monday in Shanghai, during which he will pick up a number of questions out of more than 3,200 put forward by China's Internet users over the past two days.     The whole event will be broadcast live online, according to the Xinhuanet.     Obama will arrive in Beijing on Monday afternoon.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States are committed to working together and with other countries for a successful outcome at Copenhagen summit next month, said a joint statement issued here Tuesday after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama.     The two sides have held a constructive and productive dialogue on the issue and maintained that international cooperation is indispensible in dealing with climate change, which poses one of the greatest challenge of the time, the statement said.     Both sides concede that transition to a low-carbon economy is an opportunity to promote continued economic growth and sustainable development in all countries.     Regarding the upcoming Copenhagen summit, the two countries expressed their willingness to strive for an agreed outcome based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.     "The two sides, consistent with their national circumstances, resolve to take significant mitigation actions and recognized the important role that their countries play in promoting a sustainable outcome that will strengthen the world's ability to combat climate change," said the statement.     The two countries also agreed that the outcome should include the emission reduction targets of developed countries and nationally appropriate mitigation actions of developing countries, adding that it should also substantially scale up financial assistance to developing countries, promote technology development, dissemination and transfer, and pay particular attention to the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable countries to adapt to climate change.

HANGZHOU, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States said Thursday they would not stage any new trade protection measures against each other, a significant step which lays the groundwork for the presidential summit next month.     "Both sides agreed on not introducing any new trade protection measures against each other as both vowed to oppose trade and investment protectionism and observe the related consensus of the G20 summit," Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming said later Thursday. WASHINGTON, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) --The U.S. Commerce Department said on Tuesday that it has set preliminary antidumping duties (AD)on imports of steel grating from China, a move that might escalate trade disputes between the two countries.     The department said it "preliminarily determined that Chinese producers/exporters have sold steel grating in the United States at 14.36 to 145.18 percent less than normal value."     As a result of this preliminary determination, Commerce will instruct U.S. Customs and Border Protection to collect a cash deposit or bond based on these preliminary rates.     The product covered by this investigation is a downstream steel product typically comprised of bearing and cross bars used for walkways, platforms and flooring.     From 2006 to 2008, imports of steel grating from China increased 538.44 percent by volume and were valued at an estimated90.7 million dollars in 2008, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.     Commerce said that it is currently scheduled to make its final determination in April 2010.     If Commerce makes an affirmative final determination, and the U.S. International Trade Commission makes an affirmative final determination that imports of steel grating from China materially injures, or threaten material injury to, the domestic industry, Commerce will issue an antidumping duty order.     The new case followed U.S. President Barack Obama's recent decision to impose punitive tariffs on all car and light truck tires from China for three years, a move quickly denounced by China as a "serious act of trade protectionism."     The protectionist moves by the Obama administration will ultimately hurt the U.S.-China trade relations, which are becoming more and more important due to the global financial crisis, economists warned.
