Jill McCabe on Monday called President Donald Trump's attacks on her family, culminating in her husband's firing, a "nightmare."The wife of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe called out the President for his public attacks, centered on her 2015 run for the state Senate in Virginia, in a Washington Post op-ed."For the past year and a half of this nightmare, I have not been free to speak out about what happened. Now that Andrew has been fired, I am," wrote Jill McCabe, who is an emergency room pediatrician. 524

Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep are not happy about Harvey Weinstein quoting them in an attempt to get a sexual misconduct lawsuit against him dismissed. On Tuesday, lawyers for the embattled former Hollywood mogul filed a motion in a New York federal court to dismiss a racketeering suit brought against Weinstein in December by six women. The group alleges sexual harassment and abuse by the producer, his former company Miramax and its former board members for what they say was organized criminal behavior over a period of years designed to cover up Weinstein's alleged actions.Weinstein has been accused by dozens of women of numerous incidents of alleged sexual misconduct over a period of three decades.Through his spokesperson, the media mogul has consistently denied any instances of "non-consensual" sexual activity. At the time the women's suit was filed, Miramax told CNN its current iteration has been independent of the Weinsteins for more than 10 years."Miramax joins the entire film community in condemning Harvey Weinstein and his unspeakable actions," a spokesperson said. "Miramax has been completely independent of Harvey - since he and Bob Weinstein left The Walt Disney Company to found The Weinstein Company. Twelve years and two ownership changes later, Miramax is a very different company. We at Miramax are proud of that difference."Harvey Weinstein's brother Bob Weinstein, along with current and former Weinstein Company board members Dirk Ziff, Tim Sarnoff, Marc Lasry, Tarak Ben Ammar, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg, Jeff Sackman, James Dolan and Paul Tudor Jones were also named in the suit.A spokesperson for Dolan said "Mr. Dolan is confident that he acted appropriately in all matters relating to his time on the Weinstein board."The others named in the suit either declined to respond to CNN, did not respond at the time of publication or could not be reached for comment.Harvey Weinstein's motion argues that the women have no standing for a class action suit because -- as drafted -- it "would include all women who ever met with Weinstein, regardless of whether they claimed to have suffered any identifiable harm as a result of that meeting.""Such women would include, presumably, Jennifer Lawrence, who told Oprah Winfrey she had known Weinstein since she was 20 years old and said 'he had only ever been nice to me,' and Meryl Streep, who stated publicly that Weinstein had always been respectful to her in their working relationship," the motion reads.Streep, who won a best actress Academy Award in 2012 for her portrayal as British stateswoman Margaret Thatcher in the Weinstein Company release "The Iron Lady," fired back in a statement to CNN."Harvey Weinstein's attorneys' use of my (true) statement- that he was not sexually transgressive or physically abusive in our business relationship- as evidence that he was not abusive with many OTHER women is pathetic and exploitive," she said. "The criminal actions he is accused of conducting on the bodies of these women are his responsibility, and if there is any justice left in the system he will pay for them- regardless of how many good movies, made by many good people, Harvey was lucky enough to have acquired or financed."Likewise Lawrence, who won an Oscar in 2013 for the Weinstein-produced "Silver Linings Playbook," took Weinstein to task."Harvey Weinstein and his company are continuing to do what they have always done which is to take things out of context and use them for their own benefit," Lawrence said in a statement provided to CNN Thursday. "This is what predators do, and it must stop."Lawrence also offered her support to Weinstein's alleged victims."For the record, while I was not victimized personally by Harvey Weinstein, I stand behind the women who have survived his terrible abuse and I applaud them in using all means necessary to bring him to justice whether through criminal or civil actions," she said. "Time's up."CNN has reached out to reps for Weinstein for comment.  4017

Jimmy John's says multiple employees have been fired after a video circulated on social media that showed employees laughing while they made a noose out of bread dough.According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, the incident took place at a restaurant located in Woodstock, Georgia. The video, which was initially posted to Snapchat but later circulated on Twitter, shows an employee draping the noose over another employee's head and then pretending to yank it.The person who posted the clip to Snapchat included a "Happy Fourth of July" filter on the video, indicating that the incident took place over the weekend. According to WAGA-TV in Atlanta, the location's Yelp page quickly filled up with negative comments. Others threatened to boycott the restaurant. In response to a tweet that included the video, Jimmy John's said that the employees had been "terminated.""The actions seen in this video are completely unacceptable and do not represent the Jimmy John's brand," the restaurant chain said. 997

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A group of St. Teresa’s Academy (Missouri) students were suspended following a Snapchat that showed them posing with beer pong cups arranged in a swastika. The picture, which was taken at a gathering off-campus during after-school hours, contained the caption, “Girls night!”The incident was met with outrage from alumni of the private, all-girls Catholic high school in Brookside.“Multiple people that I went to school with at St. Teresa's had posted on Facebook about it,” explained Maggie Henehan, who graduated from the school in 2008. “I was very disturbed and surprised."Alumni told Kansas City-based KSHB that the girls involved allegedly received a one day in-school suspension, which required them to write to their future colleges about the incident.“I feel that it was very lenient. I was surprised,” explained Henehan. “I remember people getting harsher punishments for getting caught drinking or being caught drinking outside of campus."In a statement sent to KSHB, the school said it was unable to report every detail of the case due to privacy and legal issues. However, the statement noted how the school conducted an investigation into the matter.“A group of STA students were drinking alcohol and participating in a beer drinking game. A picture of their activity, which was unrelated to any school sponsored event, took place off school property and after school hours, was posted on social media. The beer drinking game involved the placement of cups in a sequence resembling a hateful symbol,” the statement read. “Upon the incident being brought to our attention, STA leadership undertook an internal, as well as external investigation. We investigated the underage drinking as well as the potential for racial discrimination. We also involved the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.”After looking into the case, the school said penalties were handed down to the students involved.“Internal and external investigations concluded that this is a case of inappropriate and unlawful underage drinking,” the statement read. “After careful and complete review by the STA senior administrative team and in accordance with school policies, the students involved were disciplined.”The school did not comment on the specific penalties the students received.Moving forward, Henehan hoped the school would take a more aggressive stance against racism.“I hope that St Teresa's will step up and do what they need to do to make sure everyone feels welcome and everyone feels safe,” she explained. “It's definitely an opportunity for growth. I hope to see the best come out of it."  2637

KANSAS CITY, Kansas — A jury found two former Schlitterbahn Waterpark employees not guilty of lying to investigators in the 2016 death of a 10-year-old boy on the Verruckt water slide. The case against David Hughes and John Zalsman was the first one involving current and former Schlitterbahn employees after the investigation into Caleb Schwab's death.Schwab died from a neck injury while on the slide.A Schlitterbahn spokeswoman released this statement after the verdict: "We have maintained our belief in the integrity of our staff and respect the process and decision by the jury."Hughes and Zalsman were accused of interference with law enforcement by false reporting. On Thursday morning ahead of the verdict, the jury came back from deliberating to ask about one of the instructions in the case. The question related to an issue raised by Hughes' attorney, Scott Toth, who claimed the case should never have been brought against his client in Wyandotte County.Toth said during his closing arguments that Kansas Bureau of Investigation detectives interviewed Hughes in his home in Basehor, which is in Leavenworth County. If Hughes was going to charged with giving false information to investigators, it should have been in Leavenworth County, Toth arguedHowever, the jury instructions that Judge Robert Burns agreed to were to consider what crime had been committed in Wyandotte County.Kansas Assistant Attorney General Adam Zentner said in his closing arguments that the investigation centers on the Verruckt water slide brake mat, which is in Wyandotte County, so it shouldn't matter where Hughes was interviewed.KBI detectives interviewed both Hughes and Zalsman in June 2017. Both men told investigators that a brake mat in question was only on the water slide during testing, not when the park was open to the public. But a YouTube video taken by a waterpark guest showed the mat was there not long before Caleb Schwab died on the slide in August 2016. On Wednesday, Schlitterbahn lifeguard Jenson Connor testified that she saw the loose mat, took it off and reported it to managers. But the mat was never repaired. In his closing argument, Zentner played part of the audio recordings of the KBI interviews with both Hughes and Zalsman.“They're not confused, there's no memory issues,” Zentner told the jury.Zentner argued both men knowingly told false information to investigators with the intent to mislead them. However, Toth said in his closing arguments that the two men were being "singled out for a cover-up even though there was no evidence they were ever asked to fix the mat.”Toth also said the KBI had evidence, including the YouTube video and a screenshot from the video showing the mat in place during the season, but did not show that information to either Hughes or Zalsman. KBI investigators did show that evidence to a third man on the maintenance crew, Willard Kampmeier, Toth said.Toth called Hughes and Zalsman "two good old boys, who are hard working.”He also noted there had been multiple configurations of the brake mats on the slide over the course of its operation.Attorney Christopher Joseph, who represents Zalsman, said in his closing that there was no evidence presented during the trial to show the brake mat even mattered or was a factor in Caleb’s death."Why would two working-class, hourly guys lie about something insignificant. It doesn't make sense," Joseph said.READ: COMPLETE VERRUCKT COVERAGEZentner, however, said both men were shown photos and given an opportunity to change their recollections, but did not.Zentner noted both men told KBI investigators that they were responsible for the maintenance of the Verruckt. Hughes told investigators he knew the slide "inside and out,” Zentner said. This case is the first one involving current and former Schlitterbahn employees after the investigation into Caleb’s death.Park co-owner Jeff Henry, Verruckt designer John Schooley and former manager Tyler Miles all face multiple charges related to the death of the boy. 4084
