SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Weeks after storms flooded University of California San Diego dorms, students are still reeling from the damage.UCSD officials said 41 students, from Thurgood Marshall and Revelle Colleges, were relocated after the flooding Nov. 20. By Dec. 6, they said 19 had moved back into their rooms.Students showed 10News their dorms that smelled of mold. Friday, a dorm in the Thurgood Marshall Lowers Apartments had a hole in the ceiling. Students said the hole was cut after water fell from the ceiling days after the Nov. 20 storm."I noticed something dropping and it's like starting to smell," a student said. "It started dropping from three holes in the ceiling ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - While San Diego County teeters on the edge of a fall from the state's red to purple tier, local school districts are left scrambling to sort out conflicting directions."It's extremely frustrating. I want to bring kids back on campus more than anyone," said La Mesa-Spring Valley School District Superintendent David Feliciano during an interview with ABC10 News on Friday. Its online guidance plan reads in part, "If we are directed by the State to Tier 1, our schools will not be [affected] in their ability to continue in-person education or initiate their in-person education while in Tier 1. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Across California, many businesses continue to struggle in San Diego County, and some business owners say they can’t afford to pay their rent anymore without their usual income during this pandemic.Landlords are also feeling the effects of the small business struggle.“Many tenants are paying their rents, there aren’t many tenants paying their rents from profits,” said Sandy Sigal, CEO of NewMark Merrill Companies. “We’re not going to make any money or have any profits this year at all, we know that, but we do need enough money to pay our mortgages and lenders.NewMark Merrill Companies own about 80 shopping centers in three states, including California. I’m in favor of some stimulus to the unemployed.”Without additional assistance now, it’s a struggle he expects to continue until significant changes are made, and businesses can fully bounce back.“If the government helps my tenants, I’d be helped enough,” he said. “This is no one’s fault, but the pandemic and we all got to get through this together.” 2393
