(KGTV) -- Christian Unified Schools of San Diego welcomed junior and high school students back to campus on Tuesday.The El Cajon-based school district brought elementary school students back to school last week, and district officials said now it's time for the other grades to join.The school's website lists many of the precautions they're taking, including multiple temperature checks. Students will get their temperature checked before they are dropped off at school, and then again before entering the building.Everyone on campus must wear a mask or face shield, and students must wash or sanitize their hands before they enter each classroom.The district says social distancing will be observed in all classrooms. Doctors say a second wave of mental health devastation brought on by the pandemic is imminent and has the potential to overwhelm parts of the mental healthcare system.“This is going to be a long-haul situation,” said Chuck Ingoglia, president and CEO of The National Council of Behavioral Health, which offers services to 3,400 local mental health organizations around the country. “I’m certainly hearing from our members that they’re feeling a lot of tension right now.”In a survey of more than 5,000 people released by JAMA last week, 40.9 percent reported feeling at least one adverse mental health condition including depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, tripling to quadrupling rates from one year earlier. And remarkably, 10.7 percent reported seriously considering suicide within the last 30 days.“We are concerned that these [symptoms] could get worse,” said Dr. Vail Wright, senior director of healthcare innovation at the American Psychological Association. “We’re anticipating that we’ll continue to see mental health challenges including an increase in diagnostic categories as this continues if people don’t take active steps to manage their stress.”One of those major respites has been the outdoors during the summer months. EL CAJON (CNS) - A man who rear-ended a pregnant woman's car in Ramona two years ago while driving drunk, killing the woman and her unborn child, was sentenced Monday to 34 years to life in state prison. Andrew Milonis, 46, was convicted last month of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run for the Mother's Day 2017 crash that killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter, who she and her husband had planned to name Ayanna. Deputy District Attorney Laura Evans read a letter from the victim's husband, who was driving ahead of his wife when he saw the crash in his rear-view mirror, pulled over and tried to pull her out of the wreckage. Her two young sons from a previous relationship were in the car with their stepfather, and saw the aftermath. ``I still hear them screaming in my dreams, saying, `Daddy, save Mommy,' and `Mommy, get up,''' he wrote. Evans said a bartender recommended that Milonis arrange a Lyft ride to get home, but he ignored the advice. After the crash, Milonis continued driving to a nearby hotel, where employees called a Lyft driver for him. When the Lyft driver arrived and asked Milonis where he wanted to go, the defendant told the driver something to the effect of, ``Anywhere I can get a drink,'' according to Evans.
