OCEANSIDE (CNS) - An electronic device that can bring down drone aircraft, presumably as they interfere with emergency firefighting planes and police helicopters, has been obtained by Oceanside police, it was reported Saturday.Oceanside police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were among the first police agencies to acquire a "Drone Killer" from IXI Technology, a Yorba Linda company that supplies electronic equipment to the U.S. armed forces, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Saturday. Deputies deployed the anti-drone device at the 2017 Rose Parade.IXI Technology agreed to donate the ,000 drone-incapacitating weapon to Oceanside police and made a presentation to the Oceanside City Council on March 28, the Union-Tribune reported."The purpose is primarily for emergency situations," Oceanside police Lt. Aaron Doyle told the newspaper. "It won't be used when someone complains about a neighbor flying a drone. It's pretty much for a life-or-death situation, to save lives."Drones can force authorities to ground air operations to avoid collisions. That's what happened in December during the Lilac fire, when aerial firefighting had to be called off for more than an hour due to a drone in the area.The device can be pointed at a drone in the air and will cut off communication between it and its operator, the Union-Tribune reported. A drone targeted by the device will either hover in place, return to the place it was launched or simply land, depending on its programming.The device can disable most drone models, IXI Technology's Andy Morabe told the Union-Tribune. Glendon Oakley was shopping for a jersey Saturday when a child came into the El Paso, Texas, store and said there was a shooter at the nearby Walmart.Oakley told CNN no one in the store, including him, paid attention because they didn't understand what the child was talking about. Oakley said he then walked to another store.That's when things went wrong."I just heard two gunshots and a whole bunch of people started running around and screaming," Oakley said.As mayhem erupted over the next five to seven minutes, the armed Oakley planned to go with others who ran out of the store toward the gunshots."But I see a whole bunch of kids running around without their parents. Only thing I think of is pick up as many kids I can as possible," Oakley said.He and another man began corralling children. There were about 13, Oakley said, but he could only carry three."I was just focused on the kids, I wasn't really worried about myself. So just put my head down and just ran as fast as I could," he said. "They were anxious, when they were in my arms, they were trying to jump out of my arms but trying to keep them as tight as possible. They are kids, so they don't understand what is going on."Once he saw police, he said he let the kids go and pulled out his phone "in case they were going to shoot me and started recording while I was running."Oakley said he wasn't concerned with his safety, rather getting the children out of harm's way."I was just thinking about if I had a child and I wasn't around, how I would want another man to react if they saw my child running around," Oakley said.Oakley told CNN affiliate KFOX that he did what he was supposed to do and he doesn't want the limelight on him."I understand it was heroic, and I'm looked at as a hero for it, but that wasn't the reason for me ...," he said as he broke down in tears Sunday. "I'm just focused on the kids I could not get and the families that were lost. It hurts me, like, they were part of me. I don't even know the people that died or the kids that I took with me ... I want to reach out to the families that were lost and the families that lost their children because the focus should not be on me."CNN attempted to reach the soldier on Sunday.Oakley said the media's focus should be on the world and the shooting in Ohio."The spotlight should not be on me right now," he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Residents at a University City apartment complex are upset after they claim property managers neglected to warn them about flooding in the parking garage. Now, about ten tenants say their cars are underwater-- most of them totaled. Natali Gonzalez misses her Toyota Camry. She never got to say goodbye."We walked out at around 11 am to retrieve our car, and to our surprise, it was flooded," Gonzalez said. Tuesday morning, Gonzalez walked into the La Jolla Crossroads parking garage to find her car and her neighbors' cars nearly floating.RELATED: UC San Diego students reeling from flooded dorms after storm"I couldn't even open the doors," she said. "The locks weren't working. I had to manually open it."Gonzalez says property management did notify residents three times about a water shut-off, but those warnings said nothing about flooding. At 9:31 am, notices Gonzalez showed us said they had experienced an "unforeseen emergency to the main water line," and that management would provide portable toilets. Five hours later, they said they would provide drinking and cooking water. But at 5:24pm, property management added that there was alternative parking available at a nearby structure — nothing else. "I know they know it was flooded because there were people down there," Gonzalez remembered. "They weren't allowing us to be down there. They said it was unsafe for us to be down there. So I know they were aware of it. But the emails didn't say anything."Gonzalez says not only were they not notified of the rising waters or the damage to her cars, but it also seemed like they were trying to hide it from them. But some of her neighbors don't, so they are down on their luck. She is hoping property management steps up to ensure this never happens again. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire Department and Bomb Squad responded to a hazmat situation in Kearny Mesa Monday. According to the department, the incident started just before 3 p.m. near the intersection of Balboa Avenue and Ponderosa Avenue near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, workers at Senior Aerospace Jet Products routinely put titanium shavings in barrels. Monday afternoon, one of the barrels, a 55-gallon drum, began to get hot and started expanding. Firefighters arrived at the business and poured water on top of the barrel to cool the contents after evacuating the building. The bomb squad and hazmat technicians were also called to the scene and, after opening the barrel, say the titanium was reacting with another chemical. Shortly before 7 p.m., the area was declared safe and the barrel turned over to the company for proper disposal. 924
